WHAT WE’RE TRACKING TONIGHT

New US-Iran agreement reportedly includes Strait of Hormuz reopening + 60-day ceasefire extension

Good afternoon, friends, and welcome to a new (albeit very short) workweek. Cairo’s staying cool and calm today, so we’re keeping things equally smooth. In today’s issue, we’ve got your go-to guide to Eid udhiyas and donations, a deep dive into history’s game-changing innovations with Trailblazers, and a look at what’s brewing on the football fields.

But first, the news…

THE BIG STORY ABROAD-

🌐 After what seems like ages of diplomatic ping-pong, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that “significant progress” has been made in Iran talks, but there is still “work to do.” Rubio’s statement follows US President Donald Trump saying that an agreement with Iran has been “largely negotiated.”

Rubio hinted at good news and an official White House statement “in the next few hours,” but cautioned that it wouldn’t be final, maintaining that a large part of the agreement hangs on Iran committing never to pursue nuclear weapons. According to an Axios exclusive, the terms of the proposed US-Iran agreement include a 60-day ceasefire extension, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, the US lifting its blockade on Iranian ports, and fresh talks aimed at putting guardrails on Iran’s nuclear program.

MEANWHILE- Large-scale Russian attacks left four people dead and many injured in the Kyiv region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia used hypersonic Oreshnik ballistic missiles in the attack on the Ukrainian capital, making this the third time the weapon has been used in the ongoing war. The aerial assault reportedly damaged everything from residential buildings and schools to markets and areas near government offices, according to Ukrainian authorities. At least 83 people were reported wounded in the attack.

THE ENTERPRISE GUIDE

Where to donate this Eid El Adha

🐑 With Eid El Adha just a few days away, the traditional logistics of sourcing, overseeing, and handling your own livestock sacrifice can be overwhelming. The udhiya certificate (sak el udhiya) — first introduced and popularized by the Egyptian Food Bank in 2006 — has become the go-to alternative. The model takes the hassle out of the process, ensuring slaughter is carried out in strict accordance with Islamic principles, managing meat packaging, and overseeing distribution to underprivileged individuals and families across Egypt’s governorates and villages.

In today’s edition of The Enterprise Guide, we break down everything you need to know to navigate your donations this year. We’re listing the most reliable organizations where you can purchase an udhiya certificate to receive or donate, breaking down the different tiers and options available and highlighting alternative donation windows.

Where to purchase an udhiya certificate

#1- The Egyptian Food Bank: The Egyptian Food Bank (EFB) has several flexible options tailored to different budgets. EFB also offers six-month installment plans through Banque Misr, Attijariwafa Bank, AlexBank, and Emirates NBD.

  • Local udhiya certificate (baladi): At EGP 11.9k, this option represents one-seventh of a local calf, with the donor receiving a 10kg share;
  • Large imported udhiya certificate: At EGP 8.3k, this covers one-seventh of an imported buffalo calf from India, with the donor getting 8 kg;
  • Small imported udhiya certificate: At 7.3k, this is the bank’s most budget-friendly option — one-seventh of an imported buffalo calf from India, with 6 kg going to the donor.
  • Full local calf: This comes at EGP 83.3k and is equivalent to seven certificates, yielding 70 kg of meat;
  • Full large imported calf: Priced at EGP 58.1k, this option yields 56 kg of meat;
  • Full small imported calf: Coming at EGP 51.1k, this one yields 42kg of meat.

The Egyptian Food Bank also offers Eid boxes across different tiers, featuring EGP 300 and EGP 650 options, alongside an EGP 500 meat certificate that funds year-round distribution of imported meat. You can find the detailed box tiers here.

HOW TO DONATE- You can purchase or donate through their website.

#2- Dar El Orman: Dar El Orman also offers similar tiers at different price points. Donors can opt for individual shares, starting with a “sadaqah meat” donation at EGP 500, or purchase specific udhiya certificates, which include:

  • Small imported certificate: EGP 6.5k;
  • Large imported certificate: EGP 7.7k;
  • Local “baladi” certificate: EGP 9.3k.

Dar El Orman also offers full-sacrifice funding, as follows:

  • Full small imported calf: EGP 45.5k;
  • Large imported calf: EGP 53.9k;
  • Full local calf: EGP 65.1k.

HOW TO DONATE- You can purchase and donate through their website. Dar El Orman also offers installment plans through Bank Audi and ValU.

#3- Life Makers Foundation: Life Makers (Sonna’ El Hayah) offer udhiya tiers with up to 18kg shares per donor, with prices starting EGP 11.5k, as follows:

  • Cow Udhiya: EGP 15k, with the donor share being 18kg of local beef + 0.5kg of liver, delivered to donors on the second day of Eid;
  • Buffalo Udhiya: EGP 13.9k, with the donor share being 16kg of local meat + 0.5kg of liver, delivered to donors on the second day of Eid;
  • Lamb Udhiya: EGP 15kg, with the donor share being 12kg of meat + 0.5kg of liver, with deliveries to donors starting on the second day of Eid;
  • Sak Al Khair: At EGP 11.5kg, the donor receives 10kg of local meat + 0.5kg of liver, with deliveries throughout Eid to both donor and beneficiaries;
  • Gaza Udhiya: For EGP 12.5k, Life Makers will send fully-cooked and canned meat with a six-month shelf life to Gaza.

The foundation also offers a slew of other donation options, including meat share certificates, food baskets, and meals throughout Eid. You can find the entire list of donation windows here.

HOW TO DONATE- You can purchase an udhiya certificate through their website.

#4- Misr El Kheir: Misr El Kheir offers a slew of different donation options — from Eid bundles and meat certificates to Iftar Arafa meals and full udhiya options, including:

  • Udhiya certificate: This comes at EGP 11.9k, with a share of 9kg of meat, alongside 3kg of complementary legumes;
  • Udhiya for a village: This is an EGP 85k donation that goes to one of Egypt’s many rural communities, to be determined by the organization;
  • Meat certificate: This is a standardized EGP 480 donation supporting members of Egypt’s rural communities;
  • Eid bundle: At EGP 550, this includes 1kg of meat, 1kg of rice, and 1L of oil;
  • Iftar Arafa meal: EGP 100 per person;
  • El Kheir card: This is an EGP 500 pre-paid card distributed to those in need to purchase their necessities as they see fit.

HOW TO DONATE- You can purchase an udhiya certificate through their website. Installment plans are available through Valu, Sympl, National Bank of Egypt, and Premium Card.

Ears to the Ground

Inside history’s biggest breakthroughs with Walter Isaacson

🎧 Bestselling biographer, journalist, historian, and former CNN CEO Walter Isaacson brings decades of experience and insight to the Dell Technologies-produced podcast, Trailblazers. Blending his signature storytelling and in-depth explorations, the podcast tells the stories behind some of the greatest discoveries that continue to shape today’s digital revolution.

What to expect: No stranger to trailblazers, Isaacson crafts cohesive, narrative-driven 30-minute episodes that trace the foundations of today’s world. From instant pots, ice cream, and weddings to CGI, city planning, vaccines, and digital subscriptions, the show’s eight-year run has built an expansive roster of deep dives into innovation. Serving as both host and narrator, Isaacson also brings on a range of academics and experts throughout, keeping each episode dynamic and engaging.

How do our memories work? One episode digs into memory, starting off with a defining accident in 1933 when seven-year-old Henry Molaison is knocked down by a bicycle, suffers seizures, undergoes experimental brain surgery, and is left with irreparable memory loss. Henry’s tragedy leads to a breakthrough in neuroscience, deepening our understanding of the hippocampus — the brain’s memory-forming region — and the science behind how we create and lose memories. Joined by six other experts, Isaacson breaks down short- and long-term memory, PTSD, and the mechanics of repairing — or even one day erasing — painful traumatic memories.

What we liked: Isaacson brings a warm, approachable tone that lends the podcast a classic storytelling feel. The production is simple yet immersive, featuring subtle sound design and occasional music that enhance key moments. Despite being relatively short, the episodes are densely packed — though Isaacson’s traditional narration can occasionally make the pace feel a little slow.

The verdict: Trailblazers is the type of podcast that satisfies the endlessly curious, staying true to storytelling packed with facts and compelling realizations. If you’re ever curious about the “how” behind trailblazing innovations, set aside 30 minutes of your time to tune in to Trailblazers with Walter Isaacson and leave with a little more knowledge in your pocket.

WHERE TO LISTEN- You can tune in on Anghami or Spotify.
