<\/strong>Another<\/strong> green hydrogen project for Acwa: <\/strong>Saudi\u2019s Acwa Power has inked an MoU with the German firm Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE)<\/a> to establish a Saudi-Germany green hydrogen corridor to export an initial 200k tons of green hydrogen annually to Europe by 2030, according to a statement<\/a> released on Sunday. No financial details were disclosed for the project.<\/p>\n

What we know:<\/strong> Acwa will act as the developer, investor, and lead operator of hydrogen and ammonia production assets, while SEFE \u2014 a major European energy trading player \u2014 will co-invest and market the hydrogen in Germany and across Europe. <\/p>\n

Acwa is eying Europe\u2019s green hydrogen market:<\/strong> Acwa inked an MoU<\/a> with Italy\u2019s Snam to facilitate the transport of green hydrogen from Saudi to Europe via the SoutH2 Corridor<\/a> last month. The company is also exploring a USD 6.2 bn renewables-powered hydrogen project in Tunisia<\/a>, with a planned capacity of 200k tons, which would also be exported to Europe via SoutH2. Saudi and Greece will also conduct a feasibility study<\/a> to explore a potential hydrogen corridor connecting Saudi production to European Markets via Greece. <\/p>\n

In line with Acwa\u2019s long-term game: <\/strong>Acwa is targeting a USD 250 bn investment portfolio by 2030 in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and water desalination, Acwa Power\u2019s Saudi Arabia CEO Hesham Tashkandi told Aleqtisadiah<\/a> on Tuesday. The renewables giant is currently implementing investments worth USD 97 bn, 60% of which are Saudi-based, Tashkandi said.<\/p>\n

#1- <\/strong>H2 Global <\/strong>Energy advances its Morocco green hydrogen project:<\/strong> Dubai-based H2<\/a>Global Energy<\/a> has completed initial studies for a planned green hydrogen and ammonia plant in southern Morocco, with an expected annual production capacity of 1 mn metric tons of green ammonia, according to a statement<\/a> released on Monday. <\/p>\n

What\u2019s next? <\/strong>The company is also currently in discussion with Moroccan officials to explore regulatory requirements, investment opportunities, and possible collaborations. The company is also expected to make moves on the next steps, including financing and finalizing the engineering design. <\/p>\n

How would the facility work?<\/strong> The facility will use renewables to produce green hydrogen, which will then be converted into ammonia for use in agriculture, transport, and energy storage. <\/p>\n

H2 Global Energy has eyes on Tunisia too: <\/strong>H2 Global Energy and Irish Aramenco\u2019s consortium plan to set up a USD 6 bn green hydrogen project in Tunisia<\/a> slated for operation in 2031, with an annual production of 180k tons. <\/p>\n

#2- <\/strong>Germany is <\/strong>exploring Morocco\u2019s Power-to-X potential:<\/strong> The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) is launching a study to assess Morocco\u2019s potential in green hydrogen and its derivatives in partnership with German chemical engineering institute Dechema<\/a> and a local partner, Hespress<\/a> reported on Sunday. <\/p>\n

About the study:<\/strong> The study \u2014 under GIZ\u2019s Power to X<\/a> program \u2014 will analyze the entire hydrogen value chain in Morocco, from seawater desalination and electrolysis to hydrogen storage, transport, and export. It will also assess Morocco\u2019s ability to produce key PtX equipment and explore industrial integration strategies aligned with global demand. <\/p>\n

Who\u2019s doing what? <\/strong>Dechema will contribute its technical expertise in analyzing value chains and needed technology for production, while a Moroccan partner \u2014 selected via a tender \u2014 will provide local industry insight. <\/p>\n

REMEMBER- <\/strong>Morocco is heavy on green hydrogen R&D:<\/strong> Morocco\u2019s Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) inked EUR 13.5 mn financing agreement<\/a> with the German Development Bank (KfW) to advance its green hydrogen research platform Green H2A<\/a> in December.
