Its system enables over-the-air software updates, like smartphones \u2014 a cornerstone of \u201csoftware-defined vehicles\u201d \u2014 an area where traditional automakers continue to lag. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>About the JV:<\/strong> VW agreed in November to invest up to USD 5.8 bn in the JV to co-develop EV technology. The JV aims to integrate Rivian\u2019s advanced software with VW\u2019s EV infrastructure, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/rivian.com\/newsroom\/article\/rivian-and-volkswagen-group-announce-the-launch-of-their-joint-venture\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> from November. The JV is expected to improve Rivian\u2019s balance sheet by increasing sales volumes and improving its negotiation power with suppliers, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/autos-transportation\/rivian-shares-surge-58-bln-volkswagen-investment-jv-2024-11-13\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reported in November.
