The 12-day UN Convention to Combat Desertification was held in Riyadh. Meanwhile, more than <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/514151df-7023-4257-af80-1e315fb91cc1\/acg-pledges-usd-10-bn-at-cop16-bringing-total-pledges-up-to%253cmark%253e-usd-12-bn%253c%2Fmark%253e\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 12 bn<\/a> were pledged to tackle desertification, land degradation, and drought. The agreement will also help increase Abu Qir 1 ammonia plant capacity while preparing the company\u2019s exports for the EU\u2019s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). The second agreement was signed with the Swedish-Swiss multinational <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/global.abb\/group\/en\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">ABB Group<\/a> to install a smart control system to optimize natural gas consumption in Abu Qir 1 ammonia plant\u2019s boiler, with plans to explore extending the system to Abu Qir 2 and 3 plants. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- <\/strong>The company said last week it wants to deploy <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/826149d6-ed7d-46bf-a098-b78908fcb92e\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">50 tons of green hydrogen<\/a> daily to displace an unidentified amount of natural gas in the Abu Qir 2 and 3 ammonia plants while increasing the production capacity of the Abu Qir 1 plant from 1.1k tons to 1.2k tons. The energy source is also 80% compatible with oil and gas capacity and skills, which makes it a transferable industry. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Who is interested? <\/strong>The power source is receiving interest from the energy sector and technology companies looking to support their energy-intensive data centers. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>But cost reduction is necessary: <\/strong>The costs of next-generation geothermal energy are currently high compared to other low-emission alternatives but with sufficient support from policymakers and the oil and gas industry, costs could fall by 80% by 2035, the IEA estimates.
