The initiative would deploy 50 tons of green hydrogen daily to displace an unidentified amount of natural gas in Abu Qir 2 and 3 ammonia plants, while increasing the production capacity of the Abu Qir 1 ammonia plant from 1.1k tons to 1.2k tons. Abu Qir Fertilizers <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/c946439f-ad06-4f1e-9bf4-7ff3ba94a1e7\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">partnered with ABB Co.<\/a> earlier this year for the supply of green hydrogen and renewable electricity to produce green ammonia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The rationale:<\/strong> The company said in the disclosure that the move aims to mitigate any future disruption in the natural gas supply chain, which the company had suffered from last June leading to production halts amid unprecedented energy consumption during a heatwave, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.asharqbusiness.com\/green\/62889\/%D8%A3%D9%88%D9%84-%D8%B4%D8%B1%D9%83%D8%A9-%D9%85%D8%B5%D8%B1%D9%8A%D8%A9-%D8%AA%D9%82%D8%B1-%D8%A7%D8%B3%D8%AA%D8%AE%D8%AF%D8%A7%D9%85-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%87%D9%8A%D8%AF%D8%B1%D9%88%D8%AC%D9%8A%D9%86-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A3%D8%AE%D8%B6%D8%B1-%D8%A8%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A5%D9%86%D8%AA%D8%A7%D8%AC\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Asharq Business<\/a> reported last week. The move also aims to reduce carbon emissions, while preparing for the EU\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/dac41906-1485-42fe-b103-9d11a851945c\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The company has been preparing:<\/strong> Abu Qir Fertilizers <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/c946439f-ad06-4f1e-9bf4-7ff3ba94a1e7\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">signed an MoU<\/a> with Swedish-Swiss multinational ABB Group, sustainable infrastructure solutions firm MPS Infrastructure, and Egypt\u2019s state-owned construction firm Petrojet for the supply of green hydrogen and renewable electricity to produce green ammonia earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Abu Qir is going big on green fuels: <\/strong>In 2021, the company joined Helwan Fertilizers and Al Ahly Capital Holding <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/news\/story#d8dda647-67d3-430a-a518-b79805765cb2\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">to establish a joint venture<\/a> \u2014 Misr Methanol and Petrochemicals \u2014 with initial investments of USD 1.6 bn in Egypt\u2019s green fuels sector focused on methanol. The trio is also reportedly considering a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/f8a42744-8838-484a-be2e-3a7a24e1202a\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD<\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/f8a42744-8838-484a-be2e-3a7a24e1202a\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">1.2 bn investment<\/a> into the first phase of a green ammonia plant in Egypt\u2019s SCZone, which would produce one mn tons of methanol and 400k tons of ammonia annually once operational.
