Despite the urgent need to reduce emissions to combat climate change, the report highlights that there is still no indication of a peak in fossil CO2 emissions. Combined with emissions from land-use changes, total CO2 emissions are projected to reach 41.6 bn tonnes. Guterres pointed to families fleeing hurricanes, workers suffering from extreme heat, and children going hungry as droughts devastate crops. Combined, the alliance is responsible for the movement of over 80% of global trade and produces about 3% of the world's greenhouse gasses.
