<\/strong>California-based startup <\/strong>Aetherflux<\/a><\/strong> i<\/strong>s joining the race to harness solar energy directly <\/strong>from space<\/strong>, Bloomberg<\/a> reported last week. Founded by Robinhood Markets<\/a> co-founder Baiju Bhatt, the startup aims to send its first pilot satellite to a low-Earth orbit by 2026. <\/p>\n

What we know:<\/strong> Aetherflux plans to build a network of satellites that will collect solar energy and transmit it to Earth via infrared lasers. If successful, the project could create a constellation of energy-transmitting satellites similar to Elon Musk\u2019s Starlink for internet communication.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aetherflux won\u2019t be lonely out there: <\/strong>UK-based startup Space Solar<\/a> successfully tested its beaming technology demonstrator<\/a> in April, taking one step closer to harnessing solar energy from space. The company\u2019s Harrier demonstrator is the world\u2019s first 360\u00b0 wireless power transmission system \u2013 a core component of Space Solar\u2019s satellite tech \u2013 enabling the transmission of power in all directions without the need for moving parts. Scientists from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) also confirmed in July 2023 that a prototype solar power satellite could collect the sun's energy<\/a> and transmit it to Earth after six months of launching the Space Solar\u2019s demonstrator.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
