This comes as part of the Bank\u2019s green transformation initiative under its Development Policy Financing (DPF) program which aims to expand the renewables sector, increase energy efficiency, improve climate resilience, and develop a framework for a voluntary carbon credits market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The DPF round is the first in a \u201cprogrammatic series of three operations,\u201d<\/strong> the bank continued, with this particular round targeting the advancement of reforms that include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Reducing losses<\/strong> from the electricity distribution system;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Increasing the capacity for climate adaptation,<\/strong> with a particular focus on the financial sustainability of water and sanitation;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Building up Egypt\u2019s renewable energy<\/strong> sector;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Establishing a regulatory framework<\/strong> for the voluntary carbon credit market.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What they said:<\/strong> \u201cThe government of Egypt is undertaking ambitious economic and structural reforms aimed at creating a more competitive, green and private sector-led economy. Through this budget support instrument, the DPF with the World Bank helps advance policy reforms on three of its top national priorities: building macro-fiscal resilience, enhancing economic competitiveness and improving the business environment, and supporting the green transition,\u201d International Cooperation Minister Rania Al Mashat said. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The first tranche in a recently greenlit USD 6 bn package: <\/strong>The World Bank said in March it will provide Egypt with a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/9260b62d-8d7f-49eb-b21b-b9448c0be750\/egypt-secures-usd-6-bn-financing-package%253cmark%253e-world-bank%253c%2Fmark%253e-with-support-for-green-transition\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 6 bn financing package<\/a> over the next three years with a portion earmarked for the country\u2019s green transition. The package is subject to the group\u2019s board approval, which is anticipated before the end of this month.
