Makeen to produce MTU engines + generator sets in the Kingdom:<\/strong><\/a><\/strong>Saudi Engines<\/a>Manufacturing Company (Makeen)<\/a> inked a framework license agreement with <\/a>Rolls Royce Power Systems<\/a> to manufacture, test, sell and service motor and turbine Union (MTU) engines and generator sets in the kingdom, <\/a>SPA<\/a> reported on Sunday citing an Aramco press release. Information about the size of the transaction and the timeframe hasn\u2019t yet been disclosed.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s an MTU?<\/strong> MTU engines are high-performance engines manufactured by Rolls Royce\u2019s subsidiary <\/a>MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH<\/a> and are typically used in marine propulsion, power generation, military vehicles and industrial machinery. Rolls-Royce unveiled its Series 4000 and Series 1600 engines after they were approved for sustainable fuels. <\/p>\n

Why is this important? <\/strong>The engines can use sustainable fuels<\/a> including biomass to liquid, hydrotreated vegetable oil and power to liquid fuels such as e-diesel.<\/p>\n

Saudi is going big on e-fuels: <\/strong>Saudi oil giant Aramco and Enowa \u2014 Neom\u2019s energy and water utility subsidiary \u2014 signed a joint development agreement<\/a> in October to establish an e-fuel demonstration plant in KSA\u2019s Neom. The demo plant aims to make a case for the technical feasibility and commercial viability of e-fuel production in the kingdom.<\/p>\n
