Korea Western Power (Kowepco) and EDF Renewables signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to bid on the upcoming 1.5 GW Al-Khazna solar project in the UAE<\/b>, The Korean Economic Daily<\/a> reported on Friday. The project \u2014 located in Abu Dhabi\u2019s Al-Khazna area bordering Al Ain \u2014 will be completed by 2027. The financial details regarding the plant\u2019s construction were not disclosed.<\/p>\n

About the solar farm: <\/strong>Khazna is a greenfield solar power project<\/a> with a generation capacity of 1.5 GW similar in scale and production capacity to Al-Dhafra<\/a> and Al-Ajban<\/a> solar projects. Once fully operational the project is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by over 2.4 mn tons per year \u2014 equivalent to removing about 470k cars from the road.<\/p>\n

We knew this was coming: <\/strong>Emirates Water and Electricity Company(Ewec) invited developers<\/a> to submit expressions of interest for the development of Khazna last year. The selected developer will be tasked with constructing, financing, operating, maintaining, and owning the solar plant, with Ewec being the sole offtaker of solar power generated under a long-term 30-year PPA.<\/p>\n

Kowepco \u2764\ufe0fEDF: <\/strong>The two companies were tapped by Ewec last month<\/a> to develop the 1.5 GW Al Ajban solar project<\/a> for an estimated investment ticket of USD 748 mn. The plant will break ground in June and is set for completion in 2026. The pair are also developing Oman\u2019s 500 MW Manah solar project<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
