The investment ticket and target launch date for the project were not disclosed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What is polylactic acid? <\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.twi-global.com\/technical-knowledge\/faqs\/what-is-pla#:~:text=Polylactic%20acid%2C%20also%20known%20as,distillation%20and%20polymerization%20of%20petroleum.\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">PLA<\/a> is a thermoplastic monomer (a molecule that can be bonded to counterparts to form a polymer) derived from organic, renewable resources including corn scratch and sugar cane, unlike conventional plastics which are produced from the distillation and polymerization of petroleum.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why does this matter?<\/strong> Plastic manufacturing <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/2f0e2863-062d-4fc9-a6c9-95b49554f181\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">accounted for 1.8 bn tons<\/a> of greenhouse gas emissions in 2019 \u2014 3.4% of total global emissions that year. If current manufacturing levels remain on track, figures are expected to increase by 0.7 bn tons by 2050. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Targets have been set: <\/strong>UN negotiators <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/97515b0e-5e03-4249-b954-f91475deb50d\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">entered the third round of talks<\/a> on an agreement aimed at controlling plastic pollution by the end of 2024 last November. The UN Environment Programme laid out a strategy back in May for reducing the world\u2019s plastic waste levels by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/83a916e9-100e-4119-858c-5ebb739a5056\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">nearly 80%<\/a> in less than two decades using pre-existing technologies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- Kezad is making moves to boost circularity: <\/strong>The UAE trade, logistics, and industry hub <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/8778923d-a7a9-4a62-b13d-5d266a0cabe7\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">signed an agreement<\/a> back in 2022 with industrial recycling player Renov8 Polymer Industries to establish an AED 552 mn (USD 150 mn) mixed plastic waste recycling facility at its Polymer\u2019s Park. Kezad also <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/8cf05f23-89a4-4c44-9bc1-f7d8fa71167d\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">signed an agreement<\/a> with Emirati tissue manufacturer Star Paper Mill in December last year to build a AED 200 mn recycled paper plant. On a national level, the UAE last year took a decision to enforce a ban on all single-use plastic bags <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/47ae39f4-f032-4a9a-bf31-2dfc619bd5c3\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">starting January this year<\/a> and said the import of all plastic
