<\/strong>Qatar University (QU)\u2019s Agricultural Research Station (ARS) has unveiled new vertical <\/strong>farming tech to employ a hydroponic cultivation system<\/strong>, according to a statement<\/a>. The new system will allow Qatar to produce vegetables year-round while reducing resource consumption. <\/p>\n

How does it work?<\/strong> The Qatar University Vegetable Factory (QUVF)\u2019s precise climate controlled systems are able to replicate ideal growing conditions for each vegetable by regulating humidity, temperature and CO2 levels, the statement notes. The facility also uses LED lights to stimulate photosynthesis as well as sensors and automation to maintain ideal environmental conditions.<\/p>\n

Vertical farming is gaining traction in the region:<\/strong>Dubai-based Food Tech Valley signed an agreement last month with ReFarm to construct a 900k sq ft<\/a>gigafarm<\/a> with a capacity to recycle over 50k tons of food waste a year using vertical farming tech. Last May, Bahrain-based agribusiness platform Green Corp acquired an undisclosed stake<\/a> in the UAE\u2019s first urban vertical farming company Badia Farms.
