Egypt and Greece talk more renewables investments + <\/strong>GREGY<\/strong>:<\/strong>Egypt\u2019s Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mohamed Shaker met with Greece\u2019s Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Alexandra Sdoukou to widen partnerships in renewables work, a statement<\/a> notes. The two parties reviewed progress of the planned 3 GW Egypt-Greece Interconnector (GREGY), which would see Egypt export its renewables surplus to mainland Greece. Infinity Power signed an agreement<\/a> with Greece\u2019s Copelouzos Group in May to carry out a feasibility study on the proposed 950-km link and as of July, both countries had not secured the EUR 4 bn initial investment<\/a> required for the project. Shaker also highlighted Egypt\u2019s potential to generate 350 GW of solar power and 650 GW from wind, the statement notes.<\/p>\n

The kingdom has targets:<\/strong> Morocco plans to more than triple its earmarked budget<\/a> toward renewables projects between 2023-2027 in a bid to meet its target of having 7 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2027, the IEA said earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Senegal recently joined JETP:<\/strong> enegal\u2019s renewables capacity stood at 496 MW<\/a> in 2021, accounting for nearly a third of national power capacity.
