The plant will be accompanied by a 400 MWh battery energy storage system.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Who threw their hat in the ring?<\/strong> The consortiums that submitted bids are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>UAE\u2019s Masdar and Taqa Morocco.<\/li>\n<li>KSA\u2019s Acwa Power and Morocco\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nareva.ma\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Nareva Holding<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>France\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.edf-re.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">EDF Renewables<\/a> and Japan\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mitsui.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Mitsui & Co<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Spain\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.acciona.com\/?_adin=02021864894\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Acciona<\/a> and Moroccan-based <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ocapitalgroup.ma\/en\/our-shareholdings\/renewable-energy\/green-of-africa\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Green Of Africa<\/a> \u2014 a JV made up of local firms <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ocapitalgroup.ma\/en\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">O Capital Group<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.akwagroup.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Akwa Group<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Oman-based <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alsuwadipower.com\/founders.html\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Kahrabel FZE<\/a> (owned by France\u2019s Engie) and France\u2019s GDF International (another Engie subsidiary).<\/li>\n<li>China\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/eng.spic.com.cn\/AboutUs\/mc\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Huanghe Hydropower Development<\/a> (a subsidiary of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/eng.spic.com.cn\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">State Power Investment Corporation<\/a>) and UAE\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ameapower.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Amea Power<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Spain's Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios (a subsidiary of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.grupocobra.com\/en\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Grupo Cobra<\/a>) and France's <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vinci-concessions.com\/en\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Vinci Concessions<\/a>.. <\/li>\n<li>Spain\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iberdrolarenovablesinternacional.com\/home\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Iberdrola<\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iberdrolarenovablesinternacional.com\/home\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Internacional<\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iberdrolarenovablesinternacional.com\/home\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Renovables<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Next steps: <\/strong>The selected bidder will manage design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the solar farm and will raise the capital needed to finance the project. The agency did not provide a timeline on when it expects to award the tender for the project.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Progress on the remainder of the 1.6 GW complex:<\/strong> Back in July, Masen <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/317c10c5-6a0b-4f38-b4b5-1bc1b3c62958\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">pre-qualified six consortiums<\/a> including ones led by EDF and Acwa Power to establish the 400 MW Noor Midelt II solar project, while Noor\u2019s 800 MW first phase continues to be <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/f113e46f-9534-4a6f-a792-5240978a30bf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">put on pause<\/a> due to disagreements over CSP tech. The first phase \u2014 which was handed to a consortium led by EDF \u2014 was expected to start delivering electricity to the grid last year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>All under Morocco\u2019s renewables push:<\/strong> Morocco wants renewable energy <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1360319\/renewable-capacity-target-as-share-of-energy-production-in-morocco\/#:~:text=The%20government%20of%20Morocco's%2520renewable,and%252070%2520percent%2520in%25202040.\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">to account for 80%<\/a> of its total power generation by 2050. The country plans to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/17e380ca-85b5-490c-94b2-7d55bb6f9e63\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">more than triple allocations<\/a> for renewables projects to MAD 14 bn (c. USD 1.4 bn) between 2023-2027 as part of a target to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/a966a586-541d-42ac-9d15-1d4a53fa3f75\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">have 50-52%<\/a> of its energy come from renewables by 2030.
