Nissan to use UK\u2019s largest car factory to build EVs:<\/strong> Japanese automaker Nissan will invest GBP 2 bn to build a new battery factory in the UK and develop two new EV models \u2014 the Qashqai and Juke \u2014 as part of plans to end combustion engine sales<\/a> in Europe by 2030, according to a statement<\/a> released on Friday. The company will channel GBP 1.12 bn toward the models\u2019 production at its Sunderland factory, with the remainder of the planned financing earmarked for development of a planned gigafactory battery plant. The company has already invested GBP 1 bn<\/a> to build its flagship EV hub in Sunderland and sold more than 1 mn<\/a> EVs since it launched its first all-electric car in 2010. <\/p>\n

More funds going towards research: <\/strong>Nissan will also lead a GBP 30 mn investment in its R&D center in Bedfordshire UK with GBP 15 mn support from the state to develop new EV models, the statement notes.<\/p>\n

Maersk will begin powering 12 of its ships with green methanol from 2026:<\/strong> Danish shipping giant Maersk is set to buy 500k tons of green methanol a year from Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Goldwind<\/a> from 2026 onwards, according to a statement<\/a> released last week. Goldwind\u2019s green methanol \u2014 made up of a mix of green bio-methanol and e-methanol produced at a new wind energy facility in northeast China \u2014 will be used to power 12 of Maersk\u2019s large shipping vessels. Maersk currently has 24 methanol-enabled vessels in its fleet, the statement notes. <\/p>\n

REMEMBER- Maersk wants to eventually make its own green fuel:<\/strong> Maersk and its parent company AP Moller Holding established a new company<\/a> called C2X to produce and sell green methanol back in September. C2X is investing USD 3 bn<\/a> for the annual production of 300k tons ofgreen methanol and its derivatives in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. <\/p>\n

US<\/strong> greenlights BP and Equinor's Empire Wind project: <\/strong>The US has approved oil giants BP and Equinor's Empire Wind offshore project off the coasts of New York and New Jersey, Reuters<\/a> reported last week. Empire Wind will include two offshore wind farms \u2014 the 816 MW Empire Wind 1 and the 1.26 GW Empire Wind 2 \u2014 with operations set to start in 2026 and 2027 respectively. The US is pushing for 30 GW of offshore wind by 2030, with New York state aiming for 9 GW of generation capacity by 2035. New York will also issue new offshore wind tenders at the end of the month for new and existing bidders.<\/p>\n
