The Port also inked an MoU with energy-conservation solutions company <a href=\"http:\/\/unicornllc.com\/\">Unicorn International LLC<\/a> on several green projects including solar energy and green educational sessions for youth, it said in a separate <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/portofduqm\/status\/1702324135190487092\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-08\"><\/a><strong>A KSA lithium-tech startup is getting funds from Ma\u2019aden and Kaust:<\/strong> Ma\u2019aden has partnered with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Kaust) to co-invest in the latter\u2019s lithium-tech startup Lithium Infinity (Lihytech), Ma\u2019aden <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MaadenKSA\/status\/1702214774765797801\">said<\/a> on Thursday. Lihytech has patented a membrane-based lithium extraction technology that extracts the alkali metal from seawater, brine, red mud, and other unconventional materials. The technology also uses a ceramic membrane to filter the lithium ions effectively. The potential investment value was not disclosed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s not the first time: <\/strong>Ma\u2019aden and Kaust Innovation Ventures Fund announced plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaust.edu.sa\/en\/news\/kaust-startup-lihytech-raises-6-million-for-lithium-extraction-from-seawater\">invest USD 4 mn and USD 2 mn<\/a> in Lihytech, respectively, back in January. The startup said that the funds raised will be used to build a pilot facility at Kaust to extract lithium from the Red Sea and other resources in the kingdom.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saudi is trying to get ahead of a possible future lithium crunch: <\/strong>The IEA expects the supply of lithium, a major component of EV batteries, to reach <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/d4ad8a2e-befa-4a9e-94cb-0e5237f6f492\">420k metric tons by 2030<\/a>, slightly below the 443k needed to meet announced government pledges, and well below the 702k necessary for a net zero scenario.
