USD 320 mn) to develop renewable energy projects in the country yielding an expected 200 MW by 2025, the company\u2019s Vice President Amr Mohamedi told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.asharqbusiness.com\/amp\/article\/54896\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg Asharq<\/a>. This follows statements from Taqa CEO Majid Iraqui <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/b06caef6-5d11-4eb1-8ab4-0e846993ab36\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">last March<\/a> on the company\u2019s ambitions to develop several wind power farms in the kingdom.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong> REMEMBER- Morocco has a lot of wind energy potential: <\/strong> In July, Nareva Enel Green Power (NEGP) \u2014 a JV between Morocco\u2019s electricity company Nareva and Italian renewable energy developer Enel Green Power \u2014 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/ae7e37ef-56ad-4e04-bb2b-eceb2a5f3ac2\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">kicked off operations<\/a> on its 300 MW Boujdour wind farm in Morocco. Activation of the Boujdour wind farm brought the number of operational wind farms in the country to 17. The wind farm is part of NEGP\u2019s 850 MW Integrated Wind Project (IWP), which seeks to deploy an additional 100 MW from the onshore Tiskrad wind farm in Laayoune and 270 MW from the Jbel Lahdid onshore wind farm in Essaouira. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong> Details on Taqa\u2019s new plan: <\/strong>The company secured earlier this month MAD 6.6 bn from a number of local banks in a bid to refinance debts it incurred to fund its operations, and will use a chunk of the capital to expand its renewables production capacity and finance planned desalination projects by 4Q 2023, Mohamedi said, without providing details about the other renewables ventures. The company is planning to leverage its efficient renewable resources to fuel its green hydrogen export plans. Morocco is also looking to up its clean energy volumes in anticipation of the EU\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/05\/17\/1171238285\/how-a-european-law-might-get-companies-around-the-world-to-cut-climate-pollution\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">carbon border tax system<\/a> and in preparation of its own planned <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.asharqbusiness.com\/article\/54269\/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%BA%D8%B1%D8%A8-%D9%8A%D8%AF%D8%B1%D8%B3-%D8%A7%D8%B9%D8%AA%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%AF-%D8%B6%D8%B1%D9%8A%D8%A8%D8%A9-%D9%83%D8%B1%D8%A8%D9%88%D9%86-%D9%81%D9%8A-2024-%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%82%D8%B7%D8%A7%D8%B9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AE%D8%A7%D8%B5-%D8%AD%D8%B0%D8%B1\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">emission caps model<\/a>, Mohamedi noted. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong> REFRESHER- Morocco wants to position itself as an export hub for renewable energy and green hydrogen to Europe: <\/strong> Back in February, Spain <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/climate.enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/02\/06\/spain-morocco-shake-hands-on-renewables-agreements-eur-880-mn-credit-line-95556\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">extended a EUR 800 mn<\/a> credit line to the kingdom and signed 19 MoUs including a renewable energy development agreement with the country. Other nations have also been showing interest in the country\u2019s potential, with Germany signing with Morocco a partnership agreement in 2020 to build a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/3b5e540a-4965-437b-99b2-1678f08b9e6c\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">100 MW hydrogen<\/a> plant in the country. Morocco and Portugal also <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/policies\/13544-morocco-and-portugal-agreement-on-green-hydrogen-development\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">signed an agreement<\/a> to similarly develop green hydrogen plants in the country with plans to export the green fuels to the EU.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong> Taqa Morocco plans to invest USD 1.6 bn in renewable energy projects by 2030<\/strong>, Iraqui said back in March. Its renewables portfolio includes the 96 MW Noor Midelt solar generation plant, and includes other wind energy projects with a combined 100 MW volume in the country\u2019s north, and 600 MW of clean energy farms in pre-development in the south. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong> Morocco has big renewables targets: <\/strong> Morocco wants renewable energy to account for <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1360319\/renewable-capacity-target-as-share-of-energy-production-in-morocco\/#:~:text=The%20government%20of%20Morocco's%2520renewable,and%252070%2520percent%2520in%25202040.\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">80% of its total power generation<\/a> by 2050. The country plans to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/17e380ca-85b5-490c-94b2-7d55bb6f9e63\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">more than triple allocations<\/a> for renewables projects to MAD 14 bn (c. USD 1.4 bn) between 2023-2027 as part of a target to have <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/a966a586-541d-42ac-9d15-1d4a53fa3f75\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">50-52%<\/a> of its energy come from renewables by 2030.
