The project \u2014 estimated to cost <a href=\"https:\/\/maritime-executive.com\/article\/s-africa-picks-three-groups-to-bid-for-new-manganese-hydrogen-port\">USD 785 mn<\/a> in its initial phase \u2014 will establish the required infrastructure for manganese, green ammonia, and other commodity exports in the Northern Cape, the statement notes. The three groups \u2014 Boegoebaai Port & Rail Consortium, Project Elephant Consort, and Boegoebaai Development Consortium \u2014 were shortlisted from eight local and international consortia that had applied to undertake the project. TNPA will issue requests for proposals for the design, fund, and build the project from the three consortiums.<\/p>\n<p><strong>South Africa has big green fuel export plans:<\/strong> The country is looking to snap up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csis.org\/analysis\/south-africas-hydrogen-strategy\">4% of the<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csis.org\/analysis\/south-africas-hydrogen-strategy\">global market share<\/a> of the green hydrogen production sector by 2050. To realize its target, South Africa is looking to increase its electrolysis capacity to 10 GW in the Northern Cape by 2030 and produce about 500 kilotons of hydrogen annually by the same time. Last month, the Netherlands and Denmark said they would <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/05b81c18-e203-48ac-b8b8-1aeef14218fc\">set up a USD 1 bn<\/a> fund to invest in green hydrogen projects in South Africa.
