The fund is set to receive contributions from state finance institutions DBSA and the Industrial Development Corp of South Africa, as well as Sanlam Ltd. and the Hague-based Climate Fund Managers BV, Mosako said. The new fund is materializing as South Africa preps a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-11-04\/south-africa-to-use-bulk-of-8-5-billion-funding-for-electricity\">USD 8.5 bn climate finance<\/a> pact with some of the world\u2019s richest countries to break away from the use of coal and accelerate its energy transition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>China breaks ground on the world\u2019s largest solar panel facility: <\/strong>China\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longi.com\/\">LONGi<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.longi.com\/\">Green Energy Technology<\/a> has began construction on a USD 6.32 bn PV solar panel plant set to produce monocrystalline silicon wafers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zawya.com\/en\/projects\/bri\/china-starts-work-worlds-largest-solar-pv-facility-report-m74vk80b\">Zawya<\/a> reports, citing a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.xa.gov.cn\/projects\/5385.htm\">report<\/a> on the Xi\u2019an municipal government\u2019s official website. The silicon wafers will be capable of generating 100 GW annually and monocrystalline cells that can generate 50 GW and c.133 bn GWh of electricity annually, potentially cutting coal consumption by 48 mn metric tons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO- China\u2019s CRRC reveals the first hydrogen-powered locomotive: <\/strong>China\u2019s state-owned Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) converted an internal combustion engine to a hydrogen-powered one, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/science\/article\/3224372\/china-powers-hydrogen-rail-plans-locomotive-conversion\">South China Morning Press<\/a>. The engine runs for up to 190 hours relying on a hydrogen storage system which can be fueled in two hours, making it cheaper than fossil fuel-powered counterparts.
