By comparison, total global generation from tidal sites is less than 50% of that amount, the statement notes. The company has four 1.5 MW turbines with a combined capacity of 6 MW installed 20 meters below sea level off the Northern Scottish coast at the <a href=\"https:\/\/saerenewables.com\/tidal-stream\/meygen\/\">MeyGen site<\/a>, capturing some of the strongest flows between the North Sea and the North Atlantic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tidal power generation uses strong tidal flows in the deep <\/strong><strong>sea to generate energy.<\/strong> To date, tidal stream projects have a much smaller footprint than other renewables with a little over 3 MW of tidal stream installed globally, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/02\/21\/firm-announces-world-first-as-tidal-power-project-passes-milestone.html\">CNBC<\/a>. Trade association <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oceanenergy-europe.eu\/\">Ocean Energy Europe<\/a> claims that ocean energy \u2014 which includes wave energy, tidal stream technology and ocean thermal energy conversion \u2014 can provide 10% of Europe\u2019s current electricity needs by 2050.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>British International Investment (BII) has extended USD 50 mn in funding to help <\/strong><strong>Sudan\u2019s DAL Group to shore up food security in Sudan<\/strong>, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2023\/2\/706.pdf\">statement (pdf)<\/a>. The investment will be funneled through Sudan\u2019s Invictus Investment \u2014 a subsidiary and partner Invictus Trading which handles imports for DAL Group \u2014 to mitigate supply chain disruptions, and climate change impacts including severe droughts and flooding. The funds will allow DAL Group to import 280k metric tons of wheat annually.
