The plant will be the first of its kind in MENA, producing 18k kg per day, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/wam.ae\/en\/details\/1395303027391\">WAM<\/a>. The proposed timeframe for the project was not disclosed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The fuel cell grade green hydrogen will be used to power vehicles: <\/strong>The green hydrogen produced by the planned waste-to-hydrogen plant will be produced to specific international standards that will allow it to be used in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/chemistry\/proton-exchange-membrane-fuel-cells\">PEM fuel cells<\/a> \u2014 which are being developed <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/beeahgroup\/status\/1500826163006091267?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1500826163006091267%7Ctwgr%5E13fbac433b9c94d268c9df7838e4c98b4c71e611%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fgulfbusiness.com%2Fdevelopment-to-begin-on-the-regions-first-waste-to-hydrogen-plant-in-the-uae%2F\">primarily for a fleet of large trucks and buses<\/a> \u2014 the statement notes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How will it work?<\/strong> The plan is to convert non-recyclable waste wood and plastic to fuel-cell grade green hydrogen using Chinook Sciences\u2019 patented <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2590174520300155#:~:text=Abstract,carbon%20and%20no%20CO2.\">pyrolysis process<\/a> \u2014 where hydrogen is produced through the decomposition of methane \u2014 and Air Water\u2019s hydrogen refinement technology, the statement says. Syngas \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/biofuel.org.uk\/index.php?p=what-is-syngas\">synthetic gas<\/a> containing hydrogen, CO2, and carbon monoxide \u2014 will be produced by the pyrolysis and gasification process, then funneled into the hydrogen refinement system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What happens to the carbon? <\/strong>Chinook\u2019s technology produces what it calls \u201chigh performance\u201d activated carbon, a solid form of carbon that is used in applications including filtering drinking water, the food and beverage, and pollution abatement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The plant has been in the works since last year:<\/strong> Bee\u2019ah Group and Chinook Sciences announced plans to establish the Sharjah waste-to-hydrogen plant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beeahgroup.com\/beeah-and-chinook-sciences-announces-regions-first-waste-to-hydrogen-project\/\">in May 2021<\/a>, when senior officials signed an agreement outlining the terms of their partnership.
