Built at a cost of QAR 1.7 bn (c. USD 470 mn), the 800 MW facility will <strong>deliver about 10% of the country\u2019s peak electricity demand<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/totalenergies.com\/projects\/renewables-electricity\/al-kharsaah-pioneering-solar-power-plant-qatar\">said<\/a> TotalEnergies, a player in the consortium that owns and operates the facility. The project will feature a semi-automated cleaning system for its 1.8 mn solar panels and over 3k string inverters \u2014 devices used to convert solar energy into usable electricity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The independent power producer is Qatar\u2019s first large-scale solar power plant. <\/strong>It is owned and operated by <a href=\"https:\/\/energynorthern.com\/tag\/siraj-1-spv\/\">Siraj 1SPV<\/a>, a consortium owned jointly by TotalEnergies and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marubeni.com\/en\/business\/energy\/\">Marubeni<\/a> (40%), and Siraj Energy (60%). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qewc.com\/qewc\/en\/portfolio-item\/siraj-solar-energy\/\">Siraj Energy<\/a> is a JV between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qatarenergy.qa\/en\/Pages\/Home.aspx\">QatarEnergy<\/a> and Qatar Electricity and Water Company (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.qewc.com\/qewc\/en\/\">QEWC<\/a>). QatarEnergy\u2019s CEO Saad Al Kaabi (also Qatar\u2019s Energy Minister) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSS8N30R021\">said at a presser yesterday<\/a> that the company has reserved land for future expansion of plant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qatar doubled the value of its solar energy projects in 2022. <\/strong>The country invested QAR 2.3 bn (USD 631 mn) in solar this year, bringing the country\u2019s total investments in the segment to about QAR 4 bn (USD 1 bn), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qna.org.qa\/en\/News-Area\/News\/2022-10\/18\/0027-qatar-increases-solar-power-plants-investments-to-qr-4-billion-to-diversify-production\">Qatar News Agency reported<\/a>. These investments will go towards the Mesaieed and Ras Laffan solar plants, which are expected to increase the country\u2019s renewable energy capacity to 1.67 GW by the end of 2024.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OVER IN EGYPT\u2019S COP CITY-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>China\u2019s Sungrow to complete five solar plants in Sharm El Sheikh before COP27: <\/strong>Chinese solar energy company <a href=\"https:\/\/en.sungrowpower.com\/\">Sungrow<\/a> will build solar plants with a combined capacity of 35 MW worth EGP 500 mn in Egypt\u2019s Sharm El Sheikh before COP27, according to Egyptian daily <a href=\"https:\/\/almalnews.com\/%D8%B5%D9%86-%D8%AC%D8%B1%D9%88-%D8%AA%D9%86%D9%81%D8%B0-5-%D9%85%D8%AD%D8%B7%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D8%B4%D9%85%D8%B3%D9%8A%D8%A9-%D9%81%D9%89-%D8%B4%D8%B1%D9%85-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B4%D9%8A%D8%AE\/\">Al Mal<\/a>.
