<\/a> Doosan Enerbility will build a USD 378 mn cogeneration plant in Saudi Arabia <\/strong>under an agreement with Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco<\/a>). The plant will be in KSA\u2019s Jafurah, east of Riyadh, Doosan said in a press release<\/a>. The 320 MW plant will be completed in 1H2025 and is expected to produce electricity and 314 tons of steam per hour to power and heat the Jafurah gas field.<\/p>\n

SOUND SMART- What is a cogeneration plant?<\/strong> The plant traps waste heat from industrial processes and reuses it to generate electricity for something else. Trying to reduce the carbon footprint of fossil fuel production (not its use, but of the process of pulling fossil fuels out of the ground) is increasingly a \u201cthing\u201d as we noted yesterday, when we covered a pact that will see Adnoc and Taqa work together in the UAE to curb the carbon footprint of Adnoc\u2019s offshore production infrastructure<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There is already a cogeneration plant in MENA\u2019s pipeline: <\/strong>Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (Taqa) partnered with<\/a> Japanese trading company Marubeni Corporation<\/a> to develop a greenfield industrial steam, water and electric cogeneration plant and seawater desalination plant in September last year.<\/p>\n

Who\u2019s doing what: <\/strong>\u201cAs the project developer, Kepco will oversee the project development and operation, while Doosan in its role as EPC contractor will handle the overall process starting from design to the equipment supply, installation and plant commissioning,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

This is the third project that Doosan Enerbility was awarded in Saudi Arabia this year. <\/strong>In August, the company signed a USD 587 mn desalination plant<\/a> construction contract, and in February, it was awarded a USD 699 mn contract for the construction of a casting and forging facility<\/a> in the kingdom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
