Bee\u2019ah Recycling launches SRF facility producing green fuel:<\/strong> Bee\u2019ah Recycling<\/a> \u2014 a subsidiary of Emirati waste management company Bee\u2019ah<\/a> \u2014 has added a new solid recovered fuel (SRF) processing facility to its integrated waste management complex in Sharjah, according to a WAM statement<\/a>. The facility will produce an alternative green fuel from the commercial residue waste it receives \u2014 which can be used to power cement factories. Bee\u2019ah says the facility reduces both CO2 emissions and landfill, while helping to build a circular economy.<\/p>\n

The facility can produce<\/strong> 85k tonnes of green fuel every year, or 250 tonnes a day<\/strong>, the statement says. Most of this will be sold to Sharjah Cement<\/a>, which entered into an agreement in late-2020<\/a> to receive 73k tonnes of green fuel from Bee\u2019ah Recycling every year. Bee\u2019ah Recycling claims the facility\u2019s waste processing model is the first of its kind in the region.<\/p>\n

Investment ticket is a mystery, but the hope is it will be \u201cfinancially viable\u201d: <\/strong>The statement doesn\u2019t disclose how much was invested in the SRF facility or the price at which Bee\u2019ah Recycling will sell its green fuel. But the facility is operating on a model that\u2019s both environmentally beneficial and financially viable, Bee\u2019ah Recycling CEO Daker El Rabaya is quoted in the statement as saying. \u201cThe SRF facility follows a purely commercial model that is fully independent of gate fees,\u201d El Rabaya added. Gate fees are the payments<\/a> usually charged by waste treatment facilities to accept waste.<\/p>\n

Other countries in the region \u2014 like Egypt \u2014 have struggled to get WtE off the ground: <\/strong>Though WtE was touted<\/a> as a potentially lucrative shot for Egypt\u2019s private sector and the country launched<\/a> its first WtE plant last year, companies told Enterprise<\/a> that structural problems meant widespread WtE investment was still not financially viable. More financial incentives \u2014 including gate fees paid by the government \u2014 were essential to get the industry off the ground, private sector players told Enterprise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
