{"id":73634,"date":"2025-05-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-16T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/climate\/2025\/05\/16\/omans-oqae-inks-usd-2-bn-worth-of-renewable-projects\/"},"modified":"2025-05-16T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T00:00:00","slug":"omans-oqae-inks-usd-2-bn-worth-of-renewable-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/climate\/2025\/05\/16\/omans-oqae-inks-usd-2-bn-worth-of-renewable-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Oman\u2019s OQAE inks USD 2 bn worth of renewable projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><\/strong><strong>A big <\/strong><strong>renewables push in Oman:<\/strong> Oman\u2019s OQ\u2019s green energy arm OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE) signed a slew of agreements worth over USD 2 bn for renewable energy and infrastructure projects during Oman Sustainability Week, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ThisIsOQ\/status\/1921968456624226773\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">post<\/a> on X issued Monday. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Progress on three renewables projects: <\/strong>The company issued a notice to proceed with the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to a consortium comprising TotalEnergies, OQAE, and Power China, advancing <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/8a41eab5-f06f-4ce2-9540-e947dd55393b\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">three renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 300 MW<\/a> \u2014 the North Solar plant in Saih Nihaydah and the Riyah 1 and Riyah 2 wind farms. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Contractors secured: <\/strong>OQAE signed a transformer procurement agreement for the three projects by the consortium with Oman-based Voltamp, a wind turbine procurement agreement with China\u2019s Goldwind for Riyah 1 and Riyah 2, a PV panels procurement pact with China\u2019s Longi, a financing agreement for North Solar with Bank Muscat, and another two financing agreements for Riyah 1 and 2 with Bank Muscat and Al Ahli Bank. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>More projects, more agreements:<\/strong> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A joint development agreement was signed with <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/united-solar-polysilicon-fzc-spc\/about\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">United Solar<\/a><\/strong> for a <strong>700 MW <\/strong>facility that will power the Sohar Polysilicon plant;<\/li>\n<li>Indian <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/jindalrenewables.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Jindal Renewables<\/a><\/strong> inked an agreement to develop a<strong> 500 MW<\/strong> plant to power industrial facilities in Sohar and Duqm; <\/li>\n<li>US-based <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oxy.com\/about\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Oxy Zero In<\/a><\/strong> signed an agreement for a <strong>140 MW<\/strong> project in Block 09; <\/li>\n<li>An agreement was signed with Brazilian <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/saladeimprensa.vale.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Vale<\/a><\/strong> for a <strong>105 MW<\/strong> project to power Vale\u2019s facilities in Oman. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>On the green hydrogen front: <\/strong>OQAE is launching a pilot-scale green hydrogen project in Duqm\u2019s Special Economic Zone with an electrolyzer capacity of 10-15 MW, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.omanobserver.om\/article\/1170480\/business\/omans-oqae-plans-green-hydrogen-pilot-in-duqm\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Oman Observer<\/a> reported on Wednesday. The pilot is designed to give the company operational experience as it moves to take on a bigger role in Oman\u2019s alternative energy landscape. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>In parallel:<\/strong> OQAE secured a commitment from Nama Power and Water Procurement Company \u2014 the country\u2019s sole electricity and desalinated water offtaker \u2014 to take up to a 25% stake in future Independent Power Projects developed by OQAE. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>There\u2019s more:<\/strong> OQ also inked a strategic collaboration agreement with Japan\u2019s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to conduct pre-feasibility studies for carbon capture solutions across its asset portfolio, including full CO2 value chain assessments, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.muscatdaily.com\/2025\/05\/12\/oq-inks-renewable-energy-pacts-worth-2bn\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Muscat Daily<\/a> reported on Monday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">MORE REGIONAL RENEWABLES UPDATES-<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Masdar has a new project in Kazakhstan: <\/strong>Masdar and Kazakh sovereign wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna signed an agreement to collaborate on a round-the-clock energy project with a base capacity of 500 MW and a battery energy storage system with a 2 GW capacity, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaoffice.abudhabi\/en\/crown-prince-news\/crown-prince-of-abu-dhabi-and-president-of-kazakhstan-discuss-bilateral-relations-witness-exchange-of-cooperation-agreements-and-mous\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> issued on Sunday.
