Managing Editor

Job Purpose\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The Editor (English) is responsible for all aspects of the English-language edition of Enterprise, implementing the policies set forth by the Editor in Chief. S\/he ensures that all relevant news is covered; approves and assigns stories; enforces deadlines; edits and proofreads final content, making sure the Enterprise tone\/voice is consistently maintained; and dispatches the publication. As a producing manager, beyond responsibility for staff management and development, the Managing Editor will also write content on a day-to-day basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responsibilities\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

  • Monitor all sources to ensure all relevant news is covered<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Review the stories submitted by the team<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Approve stories to be included in the issue<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Assign tasks to team members based on their abilities and ensuring fair distribution<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Write content<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Edit and proofread the stories\/issue submitted by the team for publication<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Ensure that the Enterprise tone\/voice is consistently maintained<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Dispatch the issue<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Manage and develop the team<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Hiring and training new recruits on everything Enterprise<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Ensuring smooth progression of workflow<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Communicating with readers\/sponsors<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Ensuring a smooth transition from day shift to night shift work and vice versa<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Fostering Enterprise\u2019s culture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    • Understanding of business\/economic\/political news and what stories are relevant day to day<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Ability to write\/develop stories, compiling a number of sources into multiple paragraphs that are interesting, clear and concise<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Ability to research topics of interest quickly and under daily deadline constraints<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Ability to delegate, i.e. assign stories based on abilities and ensuring fair distribution<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Polishing\/editing\/proofreading content<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Contribution of ideas to improve the issue<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Accuracy of content, i.e. number of factual\/linguistic errors<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Speed of writing\/editing stories<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Adherence to the Enterprise tone\/voice<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Ability to consistently multitask under pressure<\/li>\n\n\n\n

      • Daily management and development of the English Writers\u2019 team<\/li>\n\n\n\n

        Qualifications\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

        • Bachelor\u2019s degree preferably in journalism, business, economics, finance or political science  <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Strong experience as a writer\/editor<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Strong storytelling skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Strong editorial judgement<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Strong analytical skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Ability to write flawless English<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Ability to systematically proofread documents<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Strong command of the Arabic language<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Strong understanding of business, economics and politics<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Knowledge of finance basics<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Open-minded and accepting of a broad spectrum of ideas and opinions<\/li>\n\n\n\n
