Let\u2019s dive right in.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">WHAT WE\u2019RE TRACKING REGIONALLY-<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt1\"><\/a>#1- Qatar\u2019s JTA Investment explores possible USD 1 bn investment in VinFast:<\/strong> Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup has signed an MoU with private equity (PE) fund JTA Investment Qatar to explore an equity investment of at least USD 1 bn in its Nasdaq-listed EV subsidiary VinFast, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/vingroup.net\/en\/news\/detail\/3360\/vingroup-and-global-investment-firm-jta-investment-qatar-signed-mou-for-strategic-investments-in-vinfast-and-vinpearl\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> released on Tuesday. No final investment decisions, however, have been made, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/deals\/vingroup-signs-deal-potential-qatar-fund-investment-1-billion-vinfast-2025-03-04\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reported citing a Vingroup spokesperson. The MoU will also see both players \u201cengage in discussions\u201d on possible collaborations, including on how the Qatari PE fund can leverage its \u201cextensive partner network to facilitate capital deployment\u201d for VinFast. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Not VinFast\u2019s first USD 1 bn pledge:<\/strong> Emirates Driving Company (EDC) was reported in October to be <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/e8dd65c1-1a2a-48d2-a57e-bb06f1836ab3\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">leading a consortium<\/a> of investors to provide VinFast with at least USD 1 bn in funding, according to news outlets reporting last October. The agreement also lacked a firm timeline, with the company\u2019s statement at the time only confirming EDC\u2019s role in leading the consortium without mentioning the investment size. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>IN OTHER EV UPDATES FROM TURKEY- Hyundai Motor is planning to begin Turkish EV production in 2026 in a bid to <\/strong><strong>expand its European market share<\/strong>, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hyundai.news\/eu\/articles\/press-releases\/hyundai-motor-tuerkiye-prepares-for-ev-production.html\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a> published on Monday. The company aims to sell only zero-tailpipe emissions vehicles in Europe by 2035. Over 55% of the components will be produced domestically in a bid to support Turkey\u2019s manufacturing sector. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Turkey\u2019s EV industry is booming: <\/strong>China\u2019s Ganfeng Lithium Group signed a USD 500 mn <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/09e5850f-7b88-4c99-b33e-580946976c8b\/morocco-%2B-turkey-to-each-get-a-new-lithium-battery-factory\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">joint<\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/09e5850f-7b88-4c99-b33e-580946976c8b\/morocco-%2B-turkey-to-each-get-a-new-lithium-battery-factory\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">venture agreement<\/a> last August with Turkish battery producer Y\u0130\u011e\u0130T AK\u00dc to establish a 5 GWh lithium battery production plant in Turkey<strong>. <\/strong>The month prior, Chinese EV maker BYD signed an agreement with the Turkish government to build a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/036d43a7-abf8-4f05-b5aa-089dbed2c88a\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 1 bn EV and hybrids production plant<\/a> in the country. Turkey Automobile Joint Venture Group (Togg) \u2014 a JV of local auto players \u2014 also launched the country\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/dd5f8ad6-48c3-43f9-9f3b-16ec8951b987\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">first locally-produced<\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/dd5f8ad6-48c3-43f9-9f3b-16ec8951b987\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/dd5f8ad6-48c3-43f9-9f3b-16ec8951b987\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">EV<\/a> back in October 2022, with plans to release five more locally-made models by the end of the decade. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>AND- China eyes Algeria for EV production:<\/strong> China\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.sfe.group\/Home.html\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">SFE GROUP<\/a> has pitched to the Algerian government a plan to set up an EV production facility in the 150-hectare Horchaa Industrial Zone in Naama Province, Algeria, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/18xCKUt1g9\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> issued last week. The project\u2019s plan is still in a preliminary phase, with final approvals and procedural sign-offs still pending. We still don\u2019t have a timeline or an investment ticket.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The plant\u2019s production will target both domestic sales and exports to African and <\/strong><strong>European markets<\/strong>, with an annual production ranging between 50k and 200k EVs per year. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#2- Egypt wants to attract more WtE investments: <\/strong>Egypt is trying to boost investments in waste to energy (WtE) projects by expanding public-private partnerships and preparing a more attractive feed-in-tariff rate for the projects, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/pfbid02giypU5SzfdHw3DzTrtb4MnPAZz7z3xiSU89AzoHU43vQNvT3n5mHToJKVHaHv9Ejl\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> released on Tuesday. Land for WtE projects has already been allocated across eight governorates for completion over the next three or four years, according to the statement. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- <\/strong>The country has been considering <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/81cde846-744b-4546-b7d3-80bee6213466\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">raising the feed-in-tariff rate<\/a> to around EGP 2.35\/Kwh \u2014 up from EGP 1.40\/Kwh to attract investments in the sector. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>WtE has been picking up in the country: <\/strong>The government was set to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/cddb654f-695e-48b6-bb71-2f45e6624b83\/%253cmark%253ewaste-to-energy%253c%2Fmark%253e-projects-worth-up-to-usd-1.2-bn-could-be-coming-our-way-soon\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">sign contracts<\/a> with eight local-foreign consortiums for possible projects that could produce as much as 1.7 TWh of electricity annually from municipal solid waste across a number of governorates, at a total cost of USD 900 mn - 1.2 bn in August. Cemex also signed an agreement with Egypt\u2019s Minya Governorate for the management and operation of an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/7dc1211c-2f9c-4ba5-ad69-7472ebb3eacb\/cemex-inks-agreement-for-its-third-waste-to-energy-project.\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">EGP 90 mn WtE facility<\/a> in Tuna El Gabal in Minya and Nahdet Misr Environmental Services said in September it was looking to set up <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/81cde846-744b-4546-b7d3-80bee6213466\/nahdet-misr-is-lining-up-two-more-waste-to-energy-projects-in-egypt\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">two WtE projects<\/a> in Alexandria with initial investments of USD 100 mn. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#3- <\/strong><strong>The <\/strong><strong>sixth phase of the 1.8 GW Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is now 53% <\/strong><strong>complete<\/strong>, with about 600 MW of capacity now operational, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=665009236108802&rdid=5XLNh2RyyIAQG93W\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> released on Tuesday. The sixth phase will bring the park\u2019s total production output to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/bb053132-24a2-4886-a66e-5d8a34ba2785\/dewa-and-masdar-reach-financial-close-for-sixth-phase-of-mbr-solar-park\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">4.66 GW by 2026<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- <\/strong>Dewa and Masdar reached <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/bb053132-24a2-4886-a66e-5d8a34ba2785\/dewa-and-masdar-reach-financial-close-for-sixth-phase-of-mbr-solar-park\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">financial close<\/a> on the sixth phase of the project in February 2024. The pair is operating through the Shuaa Energy 4 JV and has so far allocated some AED 5.5 bn to develop the project under an independent power producer model. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#4- <\/strong><strong>Egypt <\/strong><strong>is targeting the mobilization of EGP 100 bn in private investments in renewable <\/strong><strong>energy projects <\/strong><strong>over the next two years<\/strong>, a government official told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/asharqbusiness.com\/power\/72462\/%D9%85%D8%B5%D8%B1-%D8%AA%D8%B7%D9%85%D8%AD-%D9%84%D8%AC%D8%B0%D8%A8-100-%D9%85%D9%84%D9%8A%D8%A7%D8%B1-%D8%AC%D9%86%D9%8A%D9%87-%D9%84%D9%85%D8%B4%D8%A7%D8%B1%D9%8A%D8%B9-%D8%B7%D8%A7%D9%82%D8%A9-%D9%85%D8%AA%D8%AC%D8%AF%D8%AF%D8%A9-%D8%AE%D9%84%D8%A7%D9%84-%D8%B9%D8%A7%D9%85%D9%8A%D9%86\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Asharq Business<\/a> on Monday. The planned projects will be under a build-operate-own system, in which the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company acts as the sole buyer of the energy produced. The government will target both Egyptian and foreign investors. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- <\/strong>The Madbouly government put forward an urgent plan last year to add <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/3bd2602b-487c-4178-a801-9a56340b18b3\/amea-power-is-setting-up-a-5%253cmark%253e-gw%253c%2Fmark%253e-wind-project-in-gulf-of-suez\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">4 GW of<\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/3bd2602b-487c-4178-a801-9a56340b18b3\/amea-power-is-setting-up-a-5%253cmark%253e-gw%253c%2Fmark%253e-wind-project-in-gulf-of-suez\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">renewables<\/a> to Egypt\u2019s national grid to secure the country\u2019s energy needs by summer 2025. If the project moves as planned, construction is set to be completed in September 2029, with commissioning targeted to begin in January 2030. So far, no companies have contributed to the voluntary fund, which is set up to gather either 1% of net income or 0.1% of revenues from large companies and organizations that commercially benefit from the DNA sequencing of different natural organisms. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#4- The EU to introduce amendments easing car emissions rules: <\/strong>The European Commission is planning to ease emissions criteria for the auto sector over the next three years but has said it would maintain its 2035 deadline for banning petrol cars, the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/4a57211a-b8fa-408d-b222-0e35d0e75f36\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Times<\/a> reported on Monday. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The amendments: <\/strong>Automakers will have to reduce emissions from new passenger cars and vans by 15% from 2021 levels or face fines, but the added flexibility means fines will only be imposed in 2027 after the three-year emissions total is averaged out. The bloc will also incentivize deploying more local content in battery cells and car components, and will only support foreign manufacturers that cooperate with European partners. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>A surprising turn: <\/strong>In December, the EU said it was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/ed72a943-b589-4695-affa-cbe541378ea4\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">sticking with its policies<\/a> to limit CO2 emissions from cars despite major pushback from the bloc\u2019s industry groups, its biggest political group the European People\u2019s Party (EPP), and heavyweight members like France and Italy. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Good news for some, bad for others: <\/strong>The move was welcomed by the many carmakers expected to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/cf7c7658-5d0a-426b-87bd-f6bae613d0cf\/top-stories:-saudi%25e2%2580%2599s-ceer-and-egypt%25e2%2580%2599s-infinity-make-an-ev-push-%2B-investment-updates-galore\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">miss the 2025 targets<\/a>, where the industry could have faced up to EUR 15 bn in fines. To avoid fines, companies \u2014 including Stellantis, Toyota, Ford, Mazda, Volvo, and Subaru \u2014 have turned to pooling their emissions. However, some industry players warned the move could set Europe further back in its competition with China. \u201cEurope slowing down its transition will leave the door wide open for China to continue as an undisputed market leader,\u201d said E-Mobility Europe Secretary-General Chris Heron. \u201cEurope can\u2019t afford electrification to fail, or to delay the transition,\u201d chief executive of Volvo Cars Jim Rowan warned. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">THE SCORECARD- <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#1- <\/strong><strong>Global <\/strong><strong>sustainable<\/strong><strong> finance issuance rebounded in 2024<\/strong>, reaching USD 1.7 tn, up from USD 1.5 tn in 2023, according to Dutch investment bank <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/think.ing.com\/articles\/sustainable-finance-paint-it-green\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">ING<\/a>. Green bonds continued to dominate the market, hitting a record USD 688 bn last year, and are expected to hit USD 700 bn this year. Sustainability bonds and green loans both reached all-time highs at USD 252 bn and USD 192 bn respectively. Sustainability-linked loans contributed USD 278 bn, while sustainability-linked bonds fell to USD 39 bn this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#2- Green and sustainable sukuk issuances in the GCC region dropped 10.6% to USD 9.5<\/strong><strong> bn in 2024<\/strong>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zawya.com\/en\/economy\/islamic-economy\/global-sukuk-market-braces-for-slowdown-as-gcc-issuance-set-to-dip-rssusdq3\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Zawya<\/a> reported on Wednesday, citing Moody\u2019s. The decline came despite a surge in green sukuk activity across Saudi Arabia, where issuance nearly doubled y-o-y to account for 78% of the region\u2019s total sustainable sukuk market. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Looking forward:<\/strong> S&P Global forecasts the region\u2019s sustainable issuances to reach up to USD 18-23 bn in 2025, with sustainable sukuk representing 35% of the share of total sustainable bond issuances \u2014 up from 26% in 2023, according to its <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spglobal.com\/ratings\/en\/research\/articles\/250304-sustainability-insights-sustainable-bond-outlook-2025-middle-east-issuance-to-remain-high-13424912#ID3029\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Sustainable outlook 2025 report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The trendsetters<\/strong>: Saudi Arabia and the UAE accounted for 60% of sustainable bond issuances in 2024 and are expected to stay ahead as other MENA countries \u2014particularly Qatar and Kuwait\u2014 catch up. The UAE led the region with USD 7.4 bn in sustainable bonds in 2024, despite a 28% y-o-y slowdown, while Saudi Arabia came second place in total sustainable bond issuance, with USD 5.6 bn \u2014 despite a 27% y-o-y decline. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#3-<\/strong> <strong>Long<\/strong><strong>-term power purchase agreements for green energy saw a 35% rise y-o-y in <\/strong><strong>2024<\/strong>, the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/f2901ca4-438c-45f2-a53f-32e86ab387bb\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Times<\/a> reported on Monday, citing data from BloombergNEF. This was driven by large corporations\u2019 appetite for wind and solar energy. The US tech sector contributed notably to the trend, as companies \u2014 led by Amazon \u2014 secured climate-friendly power for data centers.
