Their production will curb the use of 250k tons of natural gas, saving TND 200 mn in electricity production costs. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#3- <\/strong><strong>Egypt <\/strong><strong>needs to introduce new financial instruments derived from the carbon market <\/strong><strong>to stimulate trading activity<\/strong>, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2024\/12\/1092.pdf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">report (pdf)<\/a> by British legal consultancy Clifford Chance. The report stressed the importance of not over-regulating carbon trading markets to avoid undermining market flexibility and commended Egypt\u2019s regulation amendments for facilitating carbon trading activities and recognizing carbon credits as tradable financial instruments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What needs to be done? <\/strong>The report outlined four key practices that regulatory bodies should adopt to improve the efficiency of carbon markets. First, they should strengthen regulatory frameworks by promoting consistency between local and international organizations. Second, they must focus on establishing the primary market. Third, efforts should be made to enhance the functioning of the secondary market. Lastly, regulatory bodies should support the proper use and disclosure of carbon credits.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>ICYMI- <\/strong>Egypt\u2019s voluntary carbon market was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/e085cf15-73c6-4131-9a8a-3e853eff3be2\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">officially launched<\/a> in July after the EGX developed a comprehensive framework for carbon certificate trading, settlement, and transparency. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt3\"><\/a> #4- <\/strong><strong>US <\/strong><strong>to hit China with more tariffs: <\/strong>The Biden administration is set to introduce new tariffs on Chinese critical materials imports to protect US manufacturing from China's dominant cleantech industry, the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/4c5a4858-b47b-4535-bb4b-99738c50abda\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Times<\/a> reports, citing people familiar with the matter. The US trade representative's office will reportedly announce a doubling of tariffs on Chinese solar wafers and polysilicon to 50% and impose a 25% levy on tungsten products. The tariffs will come into effect on January 1, just weeks before Donald Trump replaces Joe Biden in the White House.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- China is being bombarded by tariffs:<\/strong> In October, the EU decided to move forward with Chinese EV <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/b843e3c4-0ae2-4edf-96c8-a80fd9d1e27f\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">tariffs of up to 45%<\/a>. These duties \u2014 set to last for five years starting this coming January \u2014 could cost Chinese carmakers bns who wish to stay in the EU market and are designed to counter what the EU considers unfair subsidies provided to Chinese manufacturers.
