France first expressed interest in funding the 3 GW power cable back in April.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a>#2-<\/strong> <strong>Egypt is working on hitting 10 GW renewables capacity under NWFE by 2030: <\/strong>Egypt is targeting 10 GW of renewable energy generation by 2030 while decommissioning its 12 thermal plants of 5 GW capacity, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mped.gov.eg\/singlenews?id=5825&lang=en&At-the-%22Finance,-Investment,-and-Trade-Day%22-During-the-COP29-Climate-Conference-Minister-of-Planning-and-Economic-Development-and-International-Cooperation-Discusses-Mobilization-of-Concessional-Financing-and-Private-Sector-Investments-for-Energy-Projects-under-the-%22NWFE%22-Program-with-EBRD-President\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. The renewable hydrogen used in the project has been certified by Avance Labs and validated by Bureau Veritas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#4- <\/strong><strong>More <\/strong><strong>financing for Masdar <\/strong><strong>+ Socar\u2019s Azerbaijan solar plants:<\/strong> The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank have matched the Asian Development Bank (ADB)\u2019s financing Masdar and Socar Green's <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/c63ba33d-d49f-4c99-b76b-6a451a40a516\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">two solar projects<\/a> in Azerbaijan, according to statements <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/news\/2024\/ebrd-provides-financing-for-azerbaijans-largest-ever-solar-projects-at-cop29.html\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aiib.org\/en\/news-events\/news\/2024\/aiib-signs-landmark-private-sector-solar-pv-project-in-azerbaijan-at-cop29-in-baku.html&sa=D&source=docs&ust=1731937245588150&usg=AOvVaw1V9ObUY_wVMqIJK0NZOEaX\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>. Each lender is funneling USD 160 mn in funding to the projects. The 445 MW and 315 MW solar projects in Bilasuvar and Neftchala will be commissioned in 2027, offsetting some 600k tons of CO2 annually and powering 300k homes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">THE SCORECARD- <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The offshore<\/strong> <strong>wind industry is going off track: <\/strong>Offshore wind is now projected to fall short of its 2030 goals by a third, the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena)'s Director-General Francesco La Camera told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sustainability\/global-offshore-wind-industry-poised-miss-big-targets-obstacles-mount-2024-11-18\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a>. The struggling sector will serve a blow to the global push of tripling renewable capacity by 2030 which would require offshore wind to reach 494 GW, Irena says, up from the current 73 GW. Analysts say that this capacity won\u2019t be realized until 2035, the newswire writes. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Costs are up: <\/strong>The average cost of offshore wind farms has surged to USD 230 per MWh, more than triple the cost of onshore facilities, leading companies like BP and Equinor to reconsider their investments. The rate is also 30% to 40% higher than offshore costs two years ago. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Many big countries will miss their goal:<\/strong> The US is expected to reach less than half of its 2030 target despite the Biden administration's efforts to boost the industry with permits, lease sales, and tax credits.
