The company has revised its full-year income margin and revenue outlook after seeing losses in 2Q citing sustained inflation, increased repairs, upgrades, and operational inefficiencies as reasons for a one-off EUR 300 mn hit to its service business. Vestas now expects a full-year operating income margin of 4-5%, down from the previous 4-6%, and has narrowed its revenue outlook to EUR 16.5-17.5 bn. The announcement led to a 5% drop in Vestas\u2019 shares. Despite the challenges, Vestas reported an improvement in its core wind turbine sales, with an earnings margin increase of nearly 8% in 2Q y-o-y. <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/wind-turbine-maker-vestas-lowers-profit-margin-outlook-2024-08-12\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a><\/strong><strong> and <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-08-12\/vestas-cuts-full-year-guidance-ahead-of-earnings-this-week?srnd=all\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a><\/strong><strong> picked up the story.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">WATCH THIS SPACE-<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><a id=\"wwtt1\"><\/a><strong>Ewec opens registration for 3Q Clean Energy Certificates: <\/strong>Emirates Water and Electricity Company (Ewec) has opened registration for its 3Q 2024 auction of Clean Energy Certificates (CECs) in Abu Dhabi, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ewec.ae\/en\/media\/press-release\/ewec-opens-registration-its-q3-2024-clean-energy-certificates-auction\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. CECs enable companies to reduce Scope 2 emissions. The auction will close on 13 September. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Introducing wind: <\/strong>For the first time, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/bd96517b-5796-4715-b2bf-92fc0f63159d\/decarbonization,-green-policy-and-industry-updates-from-uae-and-bahrain\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">wind energy CECs<\/a> will be part of the auction. This follows Ewec\u2019s power purchase agreement with Masdar <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/d9f76b3d-7174-4005-a640-be1c0f5e07ad\/oman-investment-authority-invests-in-us%25e2%2580%2599-eh2-%2B-uae-launches-first-utility-scale-wind-programme\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">in 4Q 2023<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REFRESHER- CECs prove renewable energy production:<\/strong> In line with the International REC Standard, CECs are <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/c868035d-dc39-4777-a678-032086bf63bd\/today:-medlink-interconnector-project-gets-italian-support-%2B-leaf-global-kicks-off-bookbuilding\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">tradable clean energy tracking digital certificates<\/a> representing 1 MWh of clean energy delivered to the electricity grid from a renewable energy source. Unlike carbon credits that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, RECs offset non-renewable electricity use. In Abu Dhabi, CECs serve as the sole mechanism to ensure the use of clean energy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a><strong>Egypt\u2019s <\/strong><strong>CI Capital can trade in carbon emissions reduction certificates <\/strong>in the voluntary carbon market after it got the greenlight from the Financial Regulatory Authority, according to an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2024\/8\/1041.jpg\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">EGX bulletin<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The first of many: <\/strong>EGX already <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/56b64b62-44fe-4371-87c7-916029296e8a\/today:-debt-updates-from-turkey-%2B--solar-and-vtol-news-from-oman\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">approved asset management firm Beltone Financial\u2019s request<\/a> to trade in carbon emission reduction certificates in July. Officials from seven companies have expressed their intention to apply for the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/0957f2c1-9347-4585-a177-3339bfcc352a\/steps-toward-launching-africa%25e2%2580%2599s-first-voluntary-carbon-market-are-gaining-traction\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">FRA\u2019s approval<\/a> to trade in carbon emissions reduction certificates and futures contracts in the voluntary carbon market, including Mubasher Financial Services, Arab African International Securities, Bank Audi\u2019s Arabeya Online brokerage, Pioneers Brokerage, and Cairo Financial Holding\u2019s brokerage arm Cairo Capital Securities. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>ICYMI- Egypt\u2019s VCM is making strides:<\/strong> The FRA <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/3722fce4-7365-46da-9739-d44f689f806b\/egypt-releases-registration-and-delisting-rules-for-its-carbon-market\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">issued<\/a> the registration and delisting rules for companies looking to sell certified carbon credits on the EGX back in March. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><a id=\"wwtt3\"><\/a><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jsmo.gov.jo\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">The Jordan<\/a><\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jsmo.gov.jo\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Standards and Metrology Organization<\/a><\/strong><strong> (JSMO) has set the accreditation conditions for used EV inspection centers<\/strong>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.almamlakatv.com\/news\/148481-\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Al Mamlaka<\/a> reports. These standards \u2014 which were developed after consultations with relevant stakeholders such the Chamber of Commerce and the Free Zone Investors Commission \u2014 aim to ensure that centers are properly licensed, equipped, and staffed to assess the condition of used EVs, in efforts to guarantee their reliability before they are imported.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What we know:<\/strong> Centers will have to prove that they have the experts, technicians, equipment, and technology needed to conduct the inspections, the news outlet noted. Once we completed our degree in agri-computer engineering, we got the idea to introduce technology that would help solve issues faced by agribusiness and farming sectors. When we first started, agriculture and IT were two poles apart, so it was very tough for us to prototype our product, test it, get feedback, improve, refine it, and repeat. We continued because we were passionate about solving problems for the farming industry. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>E:<\/strong> What made you shift the businesses\u2019 focus to sustainability and climate resilience?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>SB: <\/strong>There are a lot of extreme climatic events around the world impacting agriculture and food production, causing USD bns of losses for the industry \u2014 an impact most felt by farmers working on a smaller scale. Food security is also currently under threat because of climatic changes, while the demand for food continues to increase. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">Agriculture around the globe uses a lot of chemicals, fertilizers, and fuel so it\u2019s a sector that emits a lot of carbon, but at the same time farming can actually help store carbon underground. Through our business we aim to use technology \u2014 as well as methods of regenerative agriculture that endorses the circular economy and farm circularity \u2014 to balance the emitted and sequestered carbon and achieve carbon neutrality. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>E:<\/strong> Can you give a few examples of how your software can improve climate resilience across supply chains? <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>SB:<\/strong> FarmERP is crop agnostic, so it supports open farming for field crops, greenhouse farming for vegetables, hydroponics or aeroponics, and glass houses. We use AI, machine learning, and computer vision-based solutions to offer climate-smart advisory for farmers. Our tech gives advice based on crop water requirements including how to optimize water and nutrition use based on weather forecasts and includes waste management features that can help analyze how much waste is generated and how it can be reduced. The system can also be integrated with automated irrigation systems. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">The tech also offers disease and pest alert and detection services allowing farmers to apply preventative measures that saves their crop. The system can also be integrated with automated irrigation systems. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>E:<\/strong>Are there any new products or services that the company is looking to offer anytime soon? <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>SB:<\/strong> Yes. We are developing what we call an \u201cintelligent product\u201d which uses satellite imagery to help calculate crop health, yield forecast, and water requirements. Clients will have the option to use this service separately or integrated within the FarmERP platform. The second product we are working on involves <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/m.farms.com\/precision-agriculture\/crop-scouting\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">crop scouting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>E:<\/strong> What role does AI play in your software design? <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>SB: <\/strong>The intelligent algorithms we built help the users get their data faster and more accurately than conventional methods. A lot of data is being generated at the farm level; you have data coming from sensors, data recorded from automated irrigation systems, and data from machinery, labor control systems or biometric devices. The collected information is processed using AI to generate insights that help the business boost its income and productivity. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>E:<\/strong> What led you to expand into the Middle East and North Africa?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>SB: <\/strong>The Middle East as a market is close to India, and we have immense experience working there, including in Egypt and Sudan. It\u2019s a region with scarce water supplies, the soil is limited, the crops are limited, the weather is very harsh, and the farmers face a lot of challenges. We are also working in Africa where we have partnered with some local stakeholders. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">Almost 50% of our revenue currently comes from the Middle East and we are aiming to increase that share. We work with both the private sector and the government so we are both B2B and B2G.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>E:<\/strong>Your firm announced that it aims to expand its clientele 200% y-o-y, how does it plan to achieve that and what role will MENA play in this growth?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>SB:<\/strong> In the UAE, we are looking to expand by almost 100% y-o-y since we have excellent know-how there, including understanding the requirements for digital transformation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">The challenges we faced there included a reliance on standard ERP systems for agriculture management, which are simpler compared to FarmERP\u2019s products. There\u2019s also a shortage in labor and equipment used in agriculture which farmers are forced to import from abroad at a higher cost. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>E:<\/strong> On the financing side, how is FarmERP funded? <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>SB:<\/strong> We had one funding round in 2019 where we collected USD 1.5 mn. The other rounds were small so we considered them as basic cashflow requirements rather than funding rounds. We are looking to raise funds in 1Q 2025 to expand in the MENA region. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>E:<\/strong>Where do you see the digital agriculture sector progressing over the next decade or so globally?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>SB:<\/strong> Digital agriculture is a sunrise industry that has just begun. In the next 10 years, a lot of turnaround in technology and increased finance is expected. As the climate gets harsher and more unpredictable, more tech and AI will be required to solve the basic problems in agriculture. FarmERP and Farm Gyan \u2014 a new company under development that aims to have an AI-based offering \u2014 want to play a big role in this trend, which is expected to peak in the next five The material can then absorb organic compounds, chlorine, odors and some heavy metals from water to purify it as well as be recycled for other uses. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Coffee waste is a promising resource: <\/strong>Coffee waste amounts to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S095965262205301X\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">60 mn tons annually<\/a> worldwide.
