Although the change is minute \u2014 1.33 milliseconds per century \u2014 it could impact technology that relies on precise timekeeping such as GPS. The moon is currently the dominating factor determining the Earth\u2019s rotation, but climate change could become a greater determinant if temperatures continue to rise. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What\u2019s the science behind it? <\/strong>Polar ice melt driven by climate change is pushing that meltwater from the poles towards the equator, which is changing the mass distribution of the planet and effectively slowing down its rotation. If the planet continues warming and ice loss accelerates, days could be lengthened by 2.62 milliseconds by the end of the century. The government plans to accelerate the implementation of its green hydrogen strategy, aiming to produce 3.2 mn tons annually by 2030, increasing to 9.2 mn tons by 2040. The green hydrogen projects are also expected to create over 100k jobs by 2040. The goals outlined in the document are revised down from a previously announced target of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/5345ee93-0434-4642-a343-fe5c4310bdb4\/four-countries-are-leading-mena%25e2%2580%2599s-green-hydrogen-development\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">exporting 12.5 mn tons<\/a> of green hydrogen by 2035. Egypt aims to reach a cost of USD 1.7 per kg by 2050 to capture 8% of the global hydrogen market share. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Where does Egypt stand today? <\/strong>Egypt published a hydrogen roadmap but is yet to release its national hydrogen strategy, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2024\/6\/483.pdf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">report (pdf)<\/a> released <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/882f4e3b-8549-4588-af8c-fde8153c879f\/today:-emirates-islamic-sukuk-head-to-nasdaq-%2B-it-was-the-hottest-may-on-record\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">last month<\/a> by consulting agency Alexec. The country joined the African Green Hydrogen Alliance, launched the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hydrogenegypt.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Hydrogen Egypt<\/a> association, and has announced a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/34a1031b-b726-4cf2-9978-f751f6d3ee56\/egypt%25e2%2580%2599s-green-hydrogen-incentive-package-gets-committee-level-parliament-approval\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">tax and VAT cut of 33-55%<\/a> on various project-related equipment and materials. However, the tax incentives are eligible for projects that can secure 70% of its investment from foreign financial institutions, start operations within five years, meet a minimum 20% local-content requirement, and cap foreign employees at 30% of the total workforce for up to 10 years, Alexec\u2019s report noted. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>ICYMI- Egypt <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/4678b944-fc3c-4ae9-82b0-98d0ee09c708\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">recently signed<\/a><\/strong><strong> a slew of hydrogen agreements with European firms to stay on track<\/strong> during the two-day Egypt-EU Investment Conference last month, with renewable energy and green hydrogen taking center stage as the country plans to transform into a regional hub for green hydrogen production by 2026 and a global hub by 2030. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a> <strong>#2- Shell Oman\u2019s blue hydrogen and ammonia project Blue Horizons located in Duqm<\/strong><strong> has entered its pre front-end engineering design (FEED) phase<\/strong>, the company\u2019s Senior Vice President and County Chair Walid Hadi <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/walid-hadi-cfa-1618489_we-are-pleased-to-announce-that-our-blue-activity-7218516873854803969-gNN6?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. As part of this phase, Shell Oman aims to finalize the technical design and agree on the commercial terms with the Oman\u2019s government and other offtakers. The firm is working with OQ, OQ Gas Network, and Petroleum Development Oman under a joint study agreement to deliver the pre-FEED activities for this project, Hadi notes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>ALSO- The pre-FEED package was awarded to UK-based <\/strong><strong>engineering and business consulting firm <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.woodplc.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Wood<\/a><\/strong>, which has a main office in Abu Dhabi, Hadi added. Wood will carry out studies on a pre-FEED package for the facility, and on the CO2 pipeline and injection facilities. The timeline and financials of the agreement have not been disclosed. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- <\/strong><strong>The project has been in the works since early 2023: <\/strong>Oman\u2019s OQ signed an agreement with Oman Shell <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/1a4f9fb9-bffc-4ab7-bf65-bdded865643e\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">in January of last year<\/a> to jointly produce some 1.8 mn tons of green hydrogen in Oman following Shell\u2019s acquisition of a 35% stake in the country\u2019s planned Green Energy Oman project. Shell decided to develop the plant <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/91a740d5-69e3-4c0a-a517-3afd6936555a\/%253cmark%253eshell%253c%2Fmark%253e-is-setting-up-its-blue-hydrogen-%2B-ammonia-plant-in-oman%25e2%2580%2599s-duqm\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">in Duqm<\/a> to facilitate export of the fuel in the form of blue ammonia thanks to a proposed hydrogen conversion loop and was later <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/f55f6918-4f7c-49d1-912f-122079557fdb\/oman-awards-three-green-hydrogen-blocks-at-an-estimated-investment-ticket-of-usd-20-bn\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">awarded<\/a> a block of land \u2014 through its Green Energy Oman consortium with OQ \u2014 by Oman\u2019s state-owned hydrogen company Hydrom in June 2023.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#3- <\/strong><strong>Another <\/strong><strong>step for Masdar\u2019s Cirata plant in Indonesia: <\/strong>Renewable giant Masdar\u2019s Cirata 145 MW (192 MWp) floating solar plant in Indonesia has met the country\u2019s local content requirements, the first project of its kind in the country to do so, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/masdar-abu-dhabi-future-energy-company_cirata-masdar-pioneeringenergy-activity-7218848826193829889-gW9R?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.
