Let\u2019s jump right in.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt3\"><\/a>THE BIG CLIMATE STORY OUTSIDE THE REGION- There\u2019s no single story dominating the <\/strong><strong>headlines this morning<\/strong>, but one story getting some ink is China\u2019s proposal to boost a higher capital ratio for solar PV projects to limit expansion and boost quality. The country\u2019s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a draft rule to increase the minimum capital ratio for new solar PV manufacturing projects to 30% \u2014 up from 20%. Registered companies already have to spend at least CNY 10 mn annually on R&D and process improvement \u2014 or at least 3% of overall sales \u2014 according to current guidelines. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What does this mean?<\/strong> The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/t\/tier-1-capital-ratio.asp\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">minimum capital ratio<\/a> is the percentage of the firm\u2019s core capital compared to its risk-weighted assets, meaning an increase would force firms to reallocate additional investment or expansion funds towards meeting the capital ratio. The move seeks to curb projects that merely expand capacity, instead pushing companies to improve quality and reduce production costs. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Lower supply could drive up solar panel prices:<\/strong> China\u2019s solar panel makers have been at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/84107379-e44d-4107-8f28-f4025ca70e3a\/today:-aldar-lines-up-its-green-sukuk-issuance-%2B-the-uae%25e2%2580%2599s-first-evtol-passenger-demo-flight\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">risk of plummeting panel prices<\/a> due to a major oversaturation in production capacity fueled by years of subsidies and have been merging to withstand falling panel prices. The design is based on the swept-back wings of aircrafts which enhance their aerodynamics, researcher Zishan Akhter told the National. The study \u2014 which focused on ensuring that the design change does not add to the wind turbines\u2019 energy use \u2014 took six months to complete. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Why does this matter? <\/strong><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Wind turbine blades with a swept tip design can be more efficient, especially in areas with fluctuating wind speeds, the report adds.
