href=\"https:\/\/www.nuclearpowerplantsexpo.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Nuclear Power Plants Summit &amp; Expo<\/a><\/strong><strong> is kicking off today in Istanbul <\/strong><strong>and wrapping tomorrow.<\/strong> The event will gather utility companies, independent power producers, government officials, and industry leaders to explore nuclear power projects, plans, products and NBK is planning to follow the green bond issuance with another USD-denominated senior unsecured Green Notes under the bank\u2019s Global Medium Term Note Programme with the aim of issuing USD 5 bn worth of notes denominated in any currency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a>#2- Taqa Arabia is currently negotiating and constructing solar projects worth 150 MW of <\/strong><strong>solar energy <\/strong><strong>in Egypt<\/strong>, Chairman of the Board Khaled Abu Bakr told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zawya.com\/ar\/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A3%D8%B9%D9%85%D8%A7%D9%84\/%D8%B7%D8%A7%D9%82%D8%A9\/150-b54teteh\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Zawya<\/a>. The firm is in talks with clients in the tourism, industrial, and agricultural sectors across the country, Bakr added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt3\"><\/a>#3- <\/strong><strong>Oman <\/strong><strong>evaluates RFPs for two wind farms: <\/strong>Omani state-owned oil company <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pdo.co.om\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Petroleum<\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pdo.co.om\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Development Oman (PDO)<\/a> is evaluating technical and commercial bids for the Riyah 1 and Riyah 2 wind farms with a combined 100 MW generation capacity, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.omanobserver.om\/article\/1155652\/business\/pdo-evaluating-bids-for-two-100-mw-wind-projects\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Oman Observer<\/a> reports. PDO is also developing the North Solar Independent Power Project with a capacity of 100 MW. No financial details have been disclosed for the projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>This has been in the works: <\/strong>PDO issued the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/07517e34-9302-49a3-91ec-8296df139984\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">requests for proposals (RFPs)<\/a> for the projects last year. The two wind farms are expected to come online in 2026. PDO also plans to kick off operations on the 100 MW North Solar Storage PV plant in 2025. The solar farm will be coupled with the country's first lithium-ion battery energy storage system facility with a 100 MW peak energy capacity during daylight hours.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#4- China no longer sharing data on wasted renewable energy: <\/strong>China\u2019s National Energy Administration (NEA) has stopped sharing data on the amount of solar and wind power being wasted due to a lack of grid capacity, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-07-01\/china-stops-publishing-power-data-highlighting-solar-constraints\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports. The NEA\u2019s most recent monthly power report only highlighted average utilization for all energy sources, unlike previous reports that broke the figures down for each source. This year\u2019s report showed lower solar panel use due to overloaded networks forcing shutdowns at peak hours.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>China flew too close to the sun: <\/strong>China is the world\u2019s leading renewables producer, which has prompted some trade disagreements \u2014 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/1419c306-dec9-4a0d-92eb-9810a3397435\/today:-ceer-inks-major-supply-agreement-with-hyundai-%2B-uae%25e2%2580%2599s-tenderd-closes-series-a-funding-round\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">such as the EU\u2019s recent tariffs on EVs<\/a> \u2014 which has pushed the state to work to increase domestic demand for solar panels and wind turbines. NEA data has revealed that panel generated electricity over the first four months of the year was a tenth lower than the same period in 2023 because overloaded networks have had to curtail their production. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- China recently relaxed its limits on renewables to address the issue: <\/strong>China <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/01852245-4beb-410b-8d9e-f9b250603d6f\/china-loosens-renewables-limits-to-address-overcapacity-problems\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">eased the limits<\/a> on renewable power installations in energy-rich areas in June. To cut down on wasted energy, wind and solar farms can have up to 10% \u2014 compared to the previous 5% \u2014 of their generation curtailed in \u201careas with better resource conditions.\u201d Excess renewables can be used in areas that were previously declared overcrowded and could mean an extra 30 GW of solar panel installations this year. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#5- <\/strong><strong>Ships <\/strong><strong>will start carrying less heavy fuel in the Arctic: <\/strong>The United Nations' <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imo.org\/en\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">International<\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imo.org\/en\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Maritime Organization (IMO)<\/a> has implemented a regulation banning ships from using or carrying heavy bunker fuel oil (HFO) in Arctic waters yesterday, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sustainability\/climate-energy\/new-fuel-restrictions-ships-arctic-fall-short-green-groups-say-2024-07-01\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reports. The ban, which was adopted by IMO in 2021 and took effect on July 1, aims to prevent HFO spills that could harm the region's delicate ecosystem and species and will cut around a third of HFO carried and 16% of HFO used in Arctic waters. The regulation will be fully enforced by 2029, following the expiration of several exemptions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The regulation isn\u2019t in full effect yet: <\/strong>The regulation has exemptions which currently apply to ships built since 2017 with protected fuel tanks, reducing the likelihood of spills. Arctic coastal nations have the authority to issue waivers for ships operating in sovereign waters until 2029, with more than half of the 2019 Arctic fleet eligible for waivers. Canada, for instance, plans to issue waivers for vessels supplying food and fuel to Arctic communities until 2026. Environmental groups argue that the ban falls short, as it does not fully address the issue of black carbon emissions from ships, which accelerate ice melting due to the climate crisis. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>It\u2019s still a bumpy road:<\/strong> The enforcement of the new HFO regulations may be influenced by Western sanctions and the compliance of Russia, which has yet to implement the ban.
