<\/strong>The Saudi Water Partnership Company has tapped a regional consortium led by Abu Dhabi\u2019s National Energy Company Taqa to develop the SAR 1.5 bn Juranah Independent Strategic Water Reservoir Project under a build, own, operate, transfer agreement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">^^ We have the details on this story and steals Tesla\u2019s crown:<\/strong> Chinese automaker BYD saw a significant surge in 4Q sales allowing it to boot EV giant Tesla from the top spot on industry leaderboards for the first time. BYD sold a record 526k vehicles in 4Q alone, with sales rising 70% in December. Meanwhile, Tesla delivered 484k in 4Q \u2014 more than the 473k vehicles expected by analysts \u2014 but it still wasn\u2019t enough for Elon Musk\u2019s company to keep leading the EV pack. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Not everyone is rooting for China:<\/strong> The US imposed new EV battery sourcing rules on Monday in a bid to move the country\u2019s EV supply chain away from China, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/autos-transportation\/more-evs-lose-us-tax-credits-including-tesla-cybertruck-nissan-leaf-2024-01-01\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reports. The contract will cover design, funding, construction, operation, and maintenance services for the project, which will sell generated electricity to the Kuwaiti Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy Ministry under a 30-year power purchase agreement. The project will span 84 sqm roughly 100 km west of Kuwait City, and will comprise multiple renewable technologies and grid infrastructure, according to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zawya.com\/en\/projects\/utilities\/kuwait-invites-bids-for-shagaya-3-power-plant-v1uhp250\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Zawya<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a>#2- Progress on <\/strong><strong>Iraq<\/strong><strong>\u2019s first waste-to-energy project: <\/strong>Baghdad\u2019s public works authority <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amanatbaghdad.gov.iq\/ar\/about-us\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Amanat Baghdad<\/a> approved recommendations by the country\u2019s National Investment Commission and Electricity and Environment Ministries to build the country\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/climate.enterprise.news\/news\/story?storyId=33dee0b8-302c-4b17-a504-6c96c5528b53\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">first waste-to-energy<\/a> (WtE) generation plant in the Iraqi capital, the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ina.iq\/200395--.html\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Iraqi News Agency<\/a> reports. The government has not yet set a targeted generation capacity for the project, but notes it has potential to generate 1 MW of clean power from just 40 tons of biowaste. Baghdad currently <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/climate.enterprise.news\/news\/story?storyId=33dee0b8-302c-4b17-a504-6c96c5528b53\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">produces around 9.5k tons<\/a> of waste daily, and the NIC began inviting potential investments to the WtE project in Rusafa back in October. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Next steps: <\/strong>The cabinet says it will move forward with studies on the project in 1Q, including on marketing ramp up strategies in a bid to attract qualified global developers. Iraq has <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/climate.enterprise.news\/news\/story?storyId=3415cba6-7d08-4ad3-8662-5b73efc00e7f\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">said it plans<\/a> to invite more companies to set up clean energy projects in efforts to expand its low-carbon power capacity to a third of its energy mix by 2030.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt3\"><\/a>#3- KSA's PIF was 2023's biggest state-owned investor:<\/strong> Saudi Arabia\u2019s sovereign wealth fund the Public Investment Fund (PIF) was 2023\u2019s biggest spender among global state-owned investors with total investments in green assets reaching <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/globalswf.com\/reports\/2024annual#theme-of-the-year-6\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 26.1 bn<\/a> \u2014 up from USD 18.7 bn in 2022, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/finance\/saudi-sovereign-wealth-fund-splashes-cash-2023-report-shows-2024-01-01\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reports, citing a report by Global SWF. The PIF invested a total of USD 31.5 bn in various sectors, including sports, gaming, aviation, and steelmaking as part of its plan to diversify Saudi Arabia's economy.
