The first phase will target nearly 400 MW capacity and will reach a Final Investment Decision (FID) by the end of the year. The projects are expected to begin operations by the beginning of the next decade.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#2- KSA\u2019s largest biofuel producer <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/biofuel.sa\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">The Biofuel Company<\/a><\/strong><strong> is set to triple its production of <\/strong><strong>biofuels to 36 mn liters per annum by 2025<\/strong>, Vice President of Commercial and Operations Gary Hubbard told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zawya.com\/en\/projects\/industry\/saudi-arabias-only-biofuel-producer-is-tripling-refining-capacity-by-2025-ocgysm48?amp=1\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Zawya Projects<\/a> on Thursday. The company plans to launch two new Used Cooking Oil (UCO) refining facilities in Jeddah and Riyadh, with each reaching a capacity of 12 mn liters per year, similar to its operating facility in Al Jubail. The company has expanded three times since November 2022 as a result of increased demand in the kingdom, Hubbard said. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- KSA\u2019s first waste-to-biofuel plant opened last year:<\/strong> The Biofuel Company inaugurated the kingdom\u2019s first biofuel production plant in Al Jubail <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/3400664e-873d-4153-bacc-59a50d6227cb\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">in March 2023<\/a>. The project is wholly financed by Saudi investors, with financial backing from Aramco\u2019s VC outfit Waed Ventures. The plant converts reclaimed cooking and palm oil into carbon-neutral biodiesel and has a yearly production capacity totaling some 4.2 mn liters of biodiesel per year. The refinery\u2019s green fuel would be earmarked for the local market, and any excess biodiesel output would be exported to the European market. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#3- <\/strong><strong>Another <\/strong><strong>Suez wind farm in the pipeline? <\/strong>Egypt\u2019s cabinet greenlit the signing of agreements to establish a 500 MW wind farm in the Gulf of Suez, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/pfbid0gmk1pyR1YumsD9rZaCLbWcXCfFTiY5jbxoQFyps3R8yf15iRLi9tJsjSXdiZ4Qbzl\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> last week. The farm will be developed by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.siemensgamesa.com\/en-int\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Siemens Gamesa<\/a> under a build-own-operate (BOO) agreement. No timeline or financial ticket were disclosed for the project. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What we know so far: <\/strong>There\u2019s not much that has been revealed about the project yet, but Siemens Gamesa was negotiating with the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) to acquire land for the construction of a 500 MW wind stations back in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynewsegypt.com\/2020\/01\/11\/siemens-negotiates-for-new-land-to-construct-500-mw-wind-farm\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">January 2020<\/a>, a source at Egypt's Energy ministry told Daily News Egypt at the time. The sources added that Siemens Gamesa also held talks with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) on an agreement to transfer the energy produced from the project to other areas through the national grid.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- There are other similar wind plants underway in the Gulf of Suez: <\/strong>The Red Sea Wind Energy \u2014 a JV between Orascom Construction, Japan\u2019s Toyota Tsusho Corporation\/Eurus Energy Holdings, and France\u2019s Engie \u2014 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/ee0bd9e5-5a07-419d-a938-0bc5902c5f39\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">achieved financial close<\/a> for a 500 MW wind farm near Egypt\u2019s Ras Ghareb in April last year. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the UN\u2019s Green Climate Fund will each <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/a2657cbe-36cc-4b18-8bb3-cd06b3652cd6\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">extend<\/a> USD 50 mn credit lines, contributing to the USD 501 mn syndicated loans that will fund the project. An international consortium led by Denmark\u2019s wind turbine developer Vestas also began trial operations on a EUR 250 mn, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/cf26e061-2b72-4c32-800d-5b5cdf6b74ee\/vestas-begins-trial-operations-at-gulf-of%253cmark%253e-suez-%253c%2Fmark%253ewind-farm-%2B-actis-is-reportedly-lining-up-green-loans-for-gabal-el-zeit\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">250 MW wind farm<\/a> in the same area last November. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#4- Germany moves forward with hydrogen network: <\/strong>Germany\u2019s energy policy lawmakers approved financing for a future core network for hydrogen, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/german-coalition-agrees-financing-details-hydrogen-network-2024-04-05\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reported on Friday. The coalition extended the completion deadline to 2037 from 2032 for the 9.7k km long hydrogen transport infrastructure which is set to cost the country EUR 20 bn. Lawmakers are also looking to ease the financial burden on investors by offering bankruptcy protection and a 6.7% return on equity before taxes. The terms of the agreement will be passed on to the lower house of parliament this week for approval. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- Germany has ambitious green hydrogen import plans: <\/strong>Germany will not have the production capacity to meet its hydrogen demands through domestic production alone leading to the need to build <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/0b795b98-4cd4-406f-b00d-4bef0dcd0141\/oman%25e2%2580%2599s-hydrom-talks-green-hydrogen-and-ammonia-exports-with-germany%25e2%2580%2599s-vng\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">strong partnerships<\/a> with overseas suppliers. The country will need to import around 50% to 70% of its hydrogen to meet demand \u2014 which is estimated to be between 95 to 130 TWh in 2030. The company\u2019s aggregate face value of repurchased trust certificates \u2014 including those already purchased \u2014 totals USD 239.7 mn out of the outstanding USD 500 mn trust certificates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The move comes as Tabreed aims to manage its debt profile and strengthen its balance sheet,<\/strong> the disclosure adds. In its active form \u2014 including as a fertilizer \u2014 nitrogen is a key contributor to climate change as it releases nitrous oxide \u2014 a gas that is 300 times more potent at warming the atmosphere than carbon dioxide, according to the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/news-and-stories\/story\/four-reasons-why-world-needs-limit-nitrogen-pollution#:~:text=Nitrogen%20is%20a%20key%20contributor,the%20atmosphere%20than%20carbon%20dioxide.\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">UN Environment Programme<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>A shift in goals?<\/strong> In previous statements last December, it was noted that the acquisition of OCI\u2019s stakes is part of a company drive to expand its global ammonia production network, in efforts to grow a platform for the low-carbon fuel which also serves a (green) hydrogen carrier.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Fertiglobe is positioning itself as a major ammonia player: <\/strong>Fertiglobe sent the world\u2019s first <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/e9bd1665-9b52-41eb-bea5-a8f4c0966873\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">ISCC PLUS-certified (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) green ammonia shipment<\/a> to India from its electrolyzer facility in Egypt\u2019s Suez Canal Economic Zone in December. Fertiglobe, alongside Adnoc-ADQ JV Ta\u2019ziz, GS Energy, and Mitsui, has also <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/a7ee2a39-7450-4ac3-be27-eea643fe8ecf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">signed a shareholder agreement<\/a> to construct a facility to produce some 1 mn tons of low-carbon ammonia annually in the UAE.
