The meeting will now only serve to \u201cadvance negotiations\u201d in preparation for finalization later this year. Once in effect, the accord would act as a trade agreement allowing European companies to reap some of the benefits of the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). EU critical materials \u2014 of which the US imported USD 9.26 bn worth in 2022 \u2014 would be eligible for IRA subsidies, but recycled critical minerals and final assembly provisions will likely be excluded.The US and EU have been looking to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/923a79f8-0b0a-4f84-8017-f39b1e96f5de\/today:-oman%25e2%2580%2599s-x2e-will-invest-usd-1.6-bn-into-biofuels-over-two-years\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">launch a new initiative<\/a> to reduce their dependence on China for critical minerals. The system \u2014 developed in collaboration with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/antipollution.com\/antipollution-egypt-a-company-to-provide-integrated-solid-and-liquid-waste-management-services\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Antipollution Egypt<\/a>, the Red Sea Ports Authority, and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/consupegypt.com\/en\/home-en\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">the Egyptian Marine Supply and Contracting company<\/a> \u2014 will ensure no ship crosses the canal with solid or liquid waste onboard. With the addition of these stations, the total capacity for desalinating seawater will be increased from the current 18% to 42% of the country\u2019s water supply.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt3\"><\/a>#3- Renewables could power most of Africa\u2019s energy needs by 2040: <\/strong>If all current wind, solar, and hydropower plants in Africa operate at full capacity, and all proposed projects are completed, 76% of the continent\u2019s electricity needs could be met by 2040, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s43017-023-00501-1\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> in Nature Reviews Earth & Environment.
