renewables developer Scatec has inked an agreement to build a 1 GW solar power plant to power EgyptAlum\u2019s Nagaa Hammadi industrial complex.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>THE BIG CLIMATE STORY OUTSIDE THE REGION- There's not one single story driving the conversation<\/strong>,but some climate activism blips on the radar are pinging from the UK. Three environmental campaign groups have taken the UK government to court over the country\u2019s revised climate action plan, branding the measures as \u201ca complete pipedream.\u201d The lawsuit \u2014 filed by Friends of the Earth (FoE), ClientEarth, and the Good Law Project \u2014 alleges approval of the country\u2019s amended climate strategy is unlawful and risky because the country\u2019s Energy Minister Grant Shapps at the time was not informed emissions slashing policies might not be delivered. Egypt\u2019s strategy \u2014 which was prepared in collaboration with the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/new.cedare.org\/new.cedare.org\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE)<\/a>, the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/who-we-are\/about-us#:~:text=The%20United%20Nations%20Environment%20Programme%20(UNEP)%20is%20the%20leading%20global,compromising%20that%20of%20future%20generations.\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)<\/a>, and the EU \u2014 sets out a plan for \u201cnatural resource management, pollution reduction, and ecosystem protection\u201d in efforts to work towards UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 13 (Climate Action), and 14 (Life Below Water). Given that ecotourism is key to marine conservation and biodiversity protection, the roadmap also sets out a strategy for improving infrastructure, investments, and jobs in the ecotourism sector. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- Egypt\u2019s marine life is under threat:<\/strong> A <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/f2dfa4cd-1bfb-4381-a51e-7b5bc7e57fdc\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">recent UN report<\/a> evaluating the MENA region\u2019s progress across SDGs found that Egypt faces major challenges on SDG 14, reflecting a lack of initiatives and regulation for protecting its marine biodiversity and controlling overfishing. Major <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ecohubmap.com\/hot-spot\/red-sea-coral-reefs-under-threat\/co0jklkp9lyro\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">threats to the red sea\u2019s coral reef and biodiversity<\/a> include \u201cmass tourism, overfishing, pollution, sedimentation, oil spills, coastal development, ocean acidification, seawater warming, tropical storms, disease outbreaks, vessel damage, marine debris, and invasive species.\u201d <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a>#2- Morocco has earmarked MAD 1 bn <\/strong><strong>each to the provinces of Ifran and Sefrou to boost sustainable agriculture in the kingdom<\/strong>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bitly.ws\/3dEMK\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">MAP<\/a> reports, citing the Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Mohamed Seddiki. This comes as part of Moroccos\u2019 Generation Green 2020-2030 plan, which focuses on improving the kingdom\u2019s food security and agriculture sector under a total budget of MAD 34 bn, MAD12 bn of which is financed by the government.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>About Generation Green: <\/strong>The initiative was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.maroc.ma\/en\/content\/generation-green-2020-2030\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">launched in 2020<\/a> with a focus on enhancing supply chain production, modernizing agriculture, and professional organization. It also targets meeting food requirements, boosting overall agricultural output, promoting agricultural exports, and escalating investment volumes. Sustainability is one of the main pillars of Generation Green, which sets a goal to establish more resilient and eco-efficient agriculture across the country through \u201cdoubling water efficiency, conserving agricultural soils and supporting farmers in the transition to renewable energies,\u201d according to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.agriculture.gov.ma\/fr\/ministere\/generation-green-2020-2030\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Morocco\u2019s Agriculture and Fisheries Ministry<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt3\"><\/a>#3- Slow EV adoption is <\/strong><strong>pushing European automotive leaders to explore new collaborative strategies and resource pooling to navigate the competition<\/strong>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-02-20\/vw-renault-and-stellantis-under-pressure-to-team-up-on-cheap-evs\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports.
