The acquisitionmarks Adnoc's first international equity investment in carbon management and the first time Storegga receives funding from the Mena region. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>About the funding round:<\/strong> Adnoc\u2019s investment came during Storegga\u2019s fourth round of funding, which saw further investment from existing shareholders including Singapore\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gic.com.sg\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">GIC<\/a> and Australia\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.macquarie.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Macquarie<\/a>, according to a separate <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/storegga.earth\/news\/storegga-completes-funding-round-with-backing-from-existing-shareholders-and-welcomes-a-new-shareholder\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> by Storegga. \u201cThe funds raised will be used for delivery of ongoing projects and business development activities across the company,\u201d the statement added. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>About Storegga:<\/strong> The company has <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/storegga.earth\/co2-storage\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">a portfolio of CCS projects<\/a> in the UK, US and Norway, including the Acorn CCS project in Scotland, which is expected to store up to 10 mn tons of CO2 per year by 2030. Storegga is also working on green and blue hydrogen projects in Scotland. The partnership between Adnoc and Storegga will leverage their expertise and resources to accelerate the deployment of CCS and carbon removal technologies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>This came as no surprise: <\/strong>Adnoc had allocated <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/95eabfa9-dc3c-4f10-a5ef-a931cd4e4d6c\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 15 bn<\/a> last year to low-carbon solutions and decarbonization technologies and aims to capture 10 mn tons of CO2 annually by 2030. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Adnoc has other plans in the works:<\/strong> Adnoc <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/181b0100-fc7f-4c86-bd51-cb7bbb0dd9ca\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">revised its net zero plan<\/a> in August, targeting net zero in 2045 instead of 2050. oceans:<\/strong> A team of researchers from Global Fishing Watch and other institutions has <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/globalfishingwatch.org\/press-release\/new-research-harnesses-ai-and-satellite-imagery-to-reveal-the-expanding-footprint-of-human-activity-at-sea\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">published a new study<\/a> that uses satellite imagery and machine learning to map the previously unseen industrial use of the ocean. The study, published in the journal <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-023-06825-8\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Nature<\/a>, shows the extent and intensity of human activity at sea, such as fishing, shipping, and offshore infrastructure including offshore wind farms. \"By combining space technology with state-of-the-art machine learning, we mapped undisclosed industrial activity at sea on a scale never done before,\" said co-lead author Fernando Paolo, senior machine learning engineer at Global Fishing Watch. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The findings: <\/strong>The researchers analyzed 2 mn gigabytes of satellite data from 2017 to 2021, covering coastal waters across six continents where more than three-quarters of industrial activity is concentrated. They were able to detect vessels and structures that failed to broadcast their positions, revealing numerous \"dark fleets\" and \"dark infrastructure.\" The map also reveals that about 75% of the world's industrial fishing vessels are not publicly tracked. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why is this important? <\/strong>The study highlights the potential of this new tech to tackle climate change, improve estimates of greenhouse gas emissions at sea, and inform sustainable ocean development.
