The carbon certificates market will allow companies to trade their emissions quotas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>We\u2019ve been waiting for this:<\/strong> In preparation for establishing Africa\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/f2d24668-bf4a-49e8-8e5a-5ec23423b2aa\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">first voluntary carbon market<\/a>, Egypt\u2019s Financial Regulatory Authority issued <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/122aee84-4d2a-4d00-a671-3dc10484a290\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">carbon credit verification and certification<\/a> standards for voluntary carbon certificates in August. Last month, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/71017814-88a9-452e-870e-3bae48d2dd38\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Egypt said<\/a> it identified 16 sectors \u2014 including renewable energy, waste management, and carbon capture \u2014 in which it aims to attract investments in carbon trading.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a>#2- Morocco will use renewable energies <\/strong><strong>in all new desalination plants in a bid to <\/strong><strong>reduce the environmental and financial costs of desalination<\/strong>, Moroccan Equipment and Water Minister Nizar Baraka said (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/equipement.eau.maroc\/videos\/2508155159345535\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">watch, runtime 0:15<\/a>). Morocco currently has 15 desalination plants and has a target to produce <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bitly.ws\/38YgJ\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">1.4 billion cbm<\/a> of water by 2030for drinking and agricultural purposes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Morocco is boosting water sustainability efforts:<\/strong> Moroccan state-owned fertilizer and phosphate company OCP Group secured a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/8df21e1f-68d1-49b9-984a-fe59b6538d99\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 18.3 mn green concessional loan<\/a> from the Canada-African Development Bank Climate Fund in November to expand its desalination efforts in Africa. Taqa Morocco also secured MAD 6.6 bn from a number of local banks in September, part of which is earmarked to finance <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/532430cc-875c-42fc-843f-48ae3bf222d4\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">planned desalination projects<\/a> by 4Q 2023.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#3- Alba prepares for hydrogen-powered production: <\/strong>Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) is installing a new 680.9 MW turbine that will be compatible to run on green hydrogen in the company's fifth power plant, company CEO Ali Al Bakkali told Bahraini news outlet <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alayam.com\/alayam\/first\/1040712\/News.html\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Al Ayam<\/a>. The turbine \u2014 which will be the first of its kind in the world \u2014 is manufactured by Mitsubishi Power and will be used in primary aluminum smelters, the report adds. The project is expected to be completed by 4Q of 2024 and will slash 0.5 tons of CO2 emissions per ton of aluminum produced. Alba\u2019s planned <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/360b0d1a-9020-4898-8733-948c54851ea5\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">6 MW solar project<\/a> is also officially under construction, Al Bakkali added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Not the first Alba-Mitsubishi cooperation:<\/strong> Alba is working with Mitsubishi to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/f3352e16-c76c-492d-b9eb-103e90ddfe96\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">capture CO2<\/a> from its aluminum smelter and flue gas plants.
