<\/strong><strong>pay record USD 1.7 bn emissions cheating <\/strong><strong>fine<\/strong>: US truck engine manufacturer Cummins has agreed in principle to pay the highest ever civil penalty for a US Clean Air Act violation \u2014 over USD 1.67 bn \u2014 to settle claims it skirted emissions rules and installed \u201cdefeat devices\u201d in hundreds of thousands of engines that bypassed emissions control sensors, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/statement-attorney-general-merrick-garland-agreement-principle-cummins-settle-alleged\" style=\"\"
