<\/strong><strong>headlines<\/strong>, but a new report from energy research firm Wood Mackenzie has found that China\u2019s dominance over the global solar energy supply chain will continue for much of the next decade. China has poured over USD 130 bn into its solar industry this year and intends to bring over a TW of solar wafer, cell and panel capacity online by 2024. The government-owned company is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/8f0807ba-01ab-4a32-94f8-c0c08fbeacaa\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">tasked with<\/a> the predevelopment, tendering, and subsequent offtake of energy from projects under the Saudi Energy Ministry\u2019s supervision.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>First off, Al Henakiyah: <\/strong>The project is being developed in KSA\u2019s Al Madinah by the UAE\u2019s Masdar, France\u2019s EDF Renewables, and Saudi Arabia\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nesma.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Nesma Co<\/a>. under a build-own-operate agreement, and SWPPC has inked a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/8f0807ba-01ab-4a32-94f8-c0c08fbeacaa\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">a 25-year PPA<\/a> with the consortium at USD 1.68 per KWh (c. SAR 6.31), the company notes. The companies reportedly <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.power-technology.com\/data-insights\/power-plant-profile-al-henakiyah-floating-solar-power-project-saudi-arabia\/?cf-view\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">plan to break ground<\/a> on the PV plant in 2024 and the project is expected to come online in 2026. Once operational, Al Henakiyah is expected to generate enough clean energy to power some 190k households annually.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Next, the Tabarjal solar farm:<\/strong> The project is being implemented by China\u2019s Jinko Power, Sun Glare, and Sunlight Energy Holding, and will be located in Tabarjal in the north of the kingdom. SWPPC has also inked a 25-year PPA with the consortium at USD 1.68 per KWh (c. SAR 6.40). The project \u2014 for which Jinko is the managing and technical member \u2014 is expected to generate enough clean power annually for some 75k households in the country, SPPC notes. The consortium will likely <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.power-technology.com\/marketdata\/power-plant-profile-tubarjal-floating-solar-power-project-saudi-arabia\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">begin construction<\/a> on the plant in 2024 and kick off operations in 2026.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>We knew this was coming:<\/strong> The agreements follow SPPC\u2019s announcement of shortlisted bidders for the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/8f0807ba-01ab-4a32-94f8-c0c08fbeacaa\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">fourth round of solar projects<\/a> under the country\u2019s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP). Both Al Henakiyah and Tabarjal are expected to lure in over SAR 4 bn (c. USD 1.06 bn) in investments. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>SPPC has been busy: <\/strong>The company has awarded over 11 GW of renewable energy capacity to date as part of KSA\u2019s target of sourcing 50% of its power mix from renewables by 2030, before becoming fully carbon neutral by 2060, according to the statements.Late last month, the company granted Acwa Power an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/b989863a-b066-43c4-984f-e5d8eb3599cf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Initial Commercial Operation certificate<\/a> for a phase of the 1.5 GW Sudair solar PV, greenlighting activation of another 25% of the project which is now 75% complete. Back in December, a JV between Acwa Power and Badeel signed <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/a55483f3-95f6-4f31-bc1a-df5e9f40762b\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">a 35-year power purchase agreement<\/a> with SPPC for the 2 GW Al Shuaibah 2 solar plant. And earlier in 2022, SPPC announced it would offtake power from <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/b3b6e343-2c7c-43db-ba9b-6afda7e5f573\" style=\"\"
