It aims to serve as a platform for exchanging the outcomes of research and development efforts in both national and global fusion programmes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG CLIMATE STORY OUTSIDE THE REGION- <\/strong><strong>Seven green hydrogen hubs across the US selected for USD 7 bn grants: <\/strong>US President Joe Biden mobilized USD 7 bn in federal grants to support development of seven green hydrogen production hubs across 16 states on Friday. The projects \u2014 established by companies including Exxon and Amazon \u2014 are expected to rake in investments totalling nearly USD 50 bn when accounting for additional private financing from the developing firms, Biden said. The government funding under the US\u2019 landmark <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/3907e1bd-299f-46ad-8f42-7d0fead9dcc7\">USD 369 bn Inflation Reduction Act<\/a> aims to set up the necessary clean hydrogen infrastructure to help hard-to-abate sectors \u2014 including the cement and steelmaking industries \u2014decarbonize their operations through low-carbon fuel usage. Germany signed an agreement with the Moroccan government to build <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/3b5e540a-4965-437b-99b2-1678f08b9e6c\">a 100 MW hydrogen plant<\/a> in the kingdom back in 2020 and has a target of producing 95-130 TWh of hydrogen by 2030, with 50-70% of the green fuels mix being sourced from international markets, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/germany-more-flexible-hydrogen-transition-emphasises-speed-draft-2023-07-12\/\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-07\"><\/a><\/strong><strong>WATCH THIS SPACE #3- Oman will auction \u201cvast\u201d tracts of land for renewables projects: <\/strong>The Omani government is allocating over 7.8k km2 of land in the Northern governorates of Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, and South Al Sharqiyah for renewables and green fuel projects as part of plans to have clean energy comprise a third of its power mix by 2030, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omanobserver.om\/article\/1144180\/business\/vast-areas-identified-for-renewables-in-north-oman\">Oman Daily Observer<\/a> reported on Friday. Sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futureflight.aero\/news-article\/2023-06-08\/some-experts-say-best-use-hydrogen-making-sustainable-aviation-fuels#:~:text=Such%20fuels%20are%20made%20by,water%20into%20hydrodgen%20and%20oxygen.\">are produced<\/a> from a mix of renewables-powered hydrogen and carbon dioxide captured from the atmosphere. The kingdom also plans to leverage its geographical position to establish a green fuels corridor connecting Asia with central Europe through India to boost its export capacity of low-carbon energy sources, Gharib told the news outlet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SPEAKING OF CARBON- MENA\u2019s voluntary carbon credit market could see trading of up <\/strong><strong>to <\/strong><strong>150 mn CO2 tons by 2030: <\/strong>The regional voluntary carbon credits market (VCM) could see CO2 trading of 100-150 mn tons by the end of the decade, Regional Voluntary Carbon Market Company (RVCMC) CEO Riham ElGizy told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/node\/2389511\/business-economy\">Arab News<\/a> in an interview on Wednesday. RCVMC \u2014 established by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund and the Saudi Tadawul Group with SAR 500 mn of capital \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/a86c6cf4-8b17-4320-a2af-33c23bf7d8ab\">plans to launch<\/a> its carbon trading exchange in the second half of next year, Ghizy said. \u201cBefore the establishment of the platform, RVCMC will make available exchange and advisory services to buyers and suppliers,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019re not waiting till the exchange comes online by 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>RVCMC also announced its planned VCM structure: <\/strong>RVCMC\u2019s carbon platform is \u201cgoing to be a spot market to help price discovery by 2024,\u201d ElGizy noted. \u201cWe will have as well in that exchange over-the-counter trading, we will have a marketplace for suppliers to sell their own products,\u201d she added. Ammonia to conduct feasibility studies on developing green hydrogen projects in the country, state news agency <a href=\"https:\/\/petra.gov.jo\/Include\/InnerPage.jsp?ID=28235&lang=ar&name=economic_news&cat=news\">Petra<\/a> reports. The MoU is the third of its kind to be signed by the ministry for the production of green hydrogen and ammonia, Jordan\u2019s Energy Minister Saleh Kharabsheh said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What we know: <\/strong>The MoU will pave the way for Jordan Green Ammonia \u2014 a recently established JV between Poland-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hynfra.pl\/?lang=en\">Hynfra<\/a> and Jordan-based Fidelity Group \u2014 to conduct a one-year preliminary feasibility study to set up a green hydrogen project in the country, Kharabsheh said. The ministry will enter into a framework agreement followed by a final agreement based on the outcomes of the study, he added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jordan Green Ammonia has big plans:<\/strong> The JV was formed in June to establish an ambitious green ammonia plant in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hynfra.pl\/post\/hynfra-sets-up-a-company-in-jordan-where-a-green-ammonia-factory-is-to-be-built?lang=en\">statement<\/a> by Hynfra at the time. The project includes a renewable ammonia synthesis plant powered by a 530 MW solar installation, an energy storage facility, and a seawater desalination plant. The project is expected to generate 100k to 200k tons of ammonia per year, with most of the output set for exports to EU countries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More to come? <\/strong>Kharabsheh said that 12 unnamed companies have expressed interest in signing agreements with the ministry on green hydrogen, adding that the kingdom plans to release its green hydrogen strategy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REMEMBER- <\/strong>Jordan plans to update its 2030 renewable energy plans with more ambitious targets by the end of this year or early next year, Kharabsheh told Reuters <a href=\"http:\/\/climate.enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/10\/05\/today-maersks-c2x-signs-usd-3-bn-green-methanol-agreement-with-egypt-global-resilience-forum-gets-underway-in-dubai-102805\/\">earlier this month<\/a>. USD 24.5 bn) to AED 120 bn to the economy. The lender did not specify the type of financing it will allocate to support green energy projects or when the projects would break ground.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aim of the MoU:<\/strong> The agreement aims to boost the clean energy capacity of Morocco\u2019s Office National de l'Electricit\u00e9 et de l'Eau potable (ONEE) under both the country\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/anre.ma\/en\/about\/key-dates\/\">48-15 electricity market regulation law<\/a> and national decarbonization efforts to have renewables account for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1360319\/renewable-capacity-target-as-share-of-energy-production-in-morocco\/\">80% of the country\u2019s total power generation by 2050<\/a>. Morocco plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/17e380ca-85b5-490c-94b2-7d55bb6f9e63\">more than triple allocations<\/a> for renewables projects to MAD 14 bn (c. USD 1.4 bn) between 2023-2027 as part of a target <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/a966a586-541d-42ac-9d15-1d4a53fa3f75\">to have 50-52%<\/a> of its energy come from renewables by 2030. The wind farm is part of NEGP\u2019s 850 MW Integrated Wind Project (IWP), which seeks to deploy an additional 100 MW from the onshore Tiskrad wind farm in Laayoune and 270 MW from the Jbel Lahdid onshore wind farm in Essaouira.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And Taqa Morocco plans to capitalize on the country\u2019s wind power efficiency:<\/strong> Taqa Morocco \u2014 a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (Taqa) \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/climate.enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/09\/27\/taqa-morocco-plans-to-earmark-usd-320-mn-to-boost-its-clean-energy-portfolio-102738\/\">plans to allocate MAD 3.3 bn<\/a> (c. Currently, it consists of nine electricity transmission stations, the most important of which is Al-Fadhili Station in Saudi Arabia \u2014 the biggest connecting station in the Middle East \u2014 Al-Ebrahim explained on the sidelines of the inauguration (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlArabiya_KSA\/status\/1711717877777043716\">watchtime, 0:38<\/a>). Connections with <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/6e54b850-47ba-436b-8ef8-4b9ef15261a5\">Jordan and Turkey<\/a> were also announced earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stronger interconnections = faster green transition: <\/strong>Given that the interconnection project will be used to export electricity to Iraq, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/710dc9ce-146e-42db-8df7-5a76e0c25dd3\">including electricity generated by renewable energy<\/a>, it will reduce the dependence on fossil fuels and facilitate clean power exports to other countries in the region and beyond, thus providing higher interconnectivity and integrability of renewables into the GCC grids, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/B9780128095928000147\">chapter<\/a> written by Al-Ebrahim in a book titled Renewable Energy Integration. Under the MoU, the two companies will explore setting up a business to monitor the usage of batteries installed in Honda mini-EV models that are set to begin sales in Japan next year. It said the new business would \u201cmanage and maximize the value of each battery throughout its lifetime shifting from powering EVs to use as stationary energy storage,\u201d according to the statement. A second business would help EV users optimize electricity costs by providing access to smart-charging, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Japan launched its first carbon-credit exchange as it aims to become carbon neutral by <\/strong><strong>2050<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-10-11\/japan-starts-its-first-carbon-credit-exchange-in-net-zero-push\">Bloomberg<\/a> reported on Wednesday. The new exchange allows participants to trade the local J-Credits in six categories, including renewable energy and agriculture. The renewable energy category was the most active J-Credit on the first day of trading, with c. 3k tons of emissions traded in the afternoon session at JPY 3.06k (c. This compares to a percentage of 32% for respondents aged 55 and older. The survey found that the \u201cCOP generation\u201d do not have the same sense of urgency as older generations do. \u201cYounger people have been living under global warming since birth, so they may not feel so threatened by the change,\u201d Epson CEO Yasunori Ogawa told Bloomberg in an interview.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The real worry?
