USD 487.8 mn loan from Indian infrastructure financial institution REC Limited for its the green hydrogen and ammonia project it is building with Norway\u2019s Scatec in Oman. Without strong policy action, emissions from the sector will rise between 7 to 10 percent from today. It aims to provide incentives to governments and other stakeholders to focus on sustainable cooling in five areas, including nature-based solutions, super-efficient appliances, and district cooling.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IN OTHER COP NEWS- Stay tuned for close collaboration between COP28, IEA:<\/strong> The COP28 Presidency and the International Energy Agency (IEA) convened the first of high-level dialogues aimed at building consensus over a 1.5\u00b0C aligned energy transition, <a href=\"https:\/\/wam.ae\/en\/details\/1395303179542\">Wam<\/a> reported on Saturday. The dialogues aimed to achieve agreement on a 1.5\u00b0C energy transition course and to create an enabling environment to achieve them. It also aims to build up momentum for the targeted energy outcomes for COP28.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AND- Trade will get special attention at this year\u2019s summit:<\/strong> International trade will be given prominence during COP28 for the first time later this year, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wto.org\/english\/news_e\/news23_e\/envir_20jul23_e.htm\">statement<\/a> by the World Trade Organization (WTO) last week. The WTO Secretariat is invited by the UAE Economy Ministry and the UAE Climate Change Special Envoy\u2019s Office to co-lead the COP28 Presidency Committee on trade, bringing together the The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the International Chamber of Commerce, the World Economic Forum, and the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development to help outline discussions on trade during the program. It will be subject to a dedicated day set for 4 December under the COP28 Presidency Thematic Program.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>WATCH THIS SPACE #1- Oman\u2019s sovereign wealth fund bets big on an Italian firm\u2019s <\/strong><strong>renewable energy storage: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ido.om\/\">Innovation Development Oman Investments<\/a> (IDO), the venture capital arm of Oman\u2019s sovereign wealth fund, was named among new investors in Italian battery startup Energy Dome\u2019s technologies, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/energydome.com\/energy-dome-expands-oversubscribed-series-b-financing-round-totalling-eur-55-million-usd-60m\/\">statement<\/a> released on Thursday. The size of IDO\u2019s investment was not disclosed. The announcement comes as Energy Dome closed the second tranche of its series B funding, bringing the overall round to a total of EUR 55 mn (c. USD 60 mn). Other new investors include Dutch oil and chemicals storage firm Royal Vopak\u2019s corporate capital arm Vopak Ventures and investors representing impact advisory firm Sagana.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the tech: <\/strong>Energy Dome\u2019s technology includes the trademarked CO2 Battery, a long-duration energy storage system that focuses on turning CO2 gas into a liquid and vice versa, the statement notes. The method does not rely on strategic raw materials, needing no need for minerals, including lithium and copper, that are currently central to much clean technology, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/oman-fund-invests-italian-lithium-free-energy-storage-2023-07-20\/\">Reuters<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More to come? <\/strong>The Milan-based firm also signed a MoU with Oman\u2019s sovereign wealth fund to \u201cexplore potential areas of collaboration in the Sultanate of Oman,\u201d the statement read, without providing further details on the collaboration.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>WATCH THIS SPACE #2- World\u2019s first liquified hydrogen carrier arrives in Saudi <\/strong><strong>Arabia: <\/strong>Saudi Arabia\u2019s Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman toured <a href=\"https:\/\/global.kawasaki.com\/https:\/\/global.kawasaki.com\/\">Kawasaki Heavy Industries<\/a>\u2019 liquified hydrogen carrier at the Jeddah Islamic Port last week, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saudigazette.com.sa\/article\/634370\/SAUDI-ARABIA\/Saudi-energy-minister-visits-worlds-first-liquefied-hydrogen-carrier-in-Jeddah\">Saudi Gazette<\/a> reported on Thursday. The 116 meter, 19 meters wide ship has a 1.25k cubic meters storage capacity storing hydrogen at -253\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO- KSA will join Clean Energy Ministerial\u2019s Hydrogen Initiativ<\/strong>e: Saudi Arabia is reportedly set to join the multi government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cleanenergyministerial.org\/initiatives-campaigns\/hydrogen-initiative\/\">Hydrogen Initiative<\/a> spearheaded by India-based clean energy forum <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cleanenergyministerial.org\/\">Clean Energy Ministerial<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasdaq.com\/articles\/saudi-arabia-to-join-global-hydrogen-trade-forum-minister\">Reuters<\/a> reported on Friday. The initiative aims to connect hydrogen producing and importing countries to discuss international trade of the green fuel.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-09\"><\/a> <strong>WATCH THIS SPACE #3- Dutch emissions laws could be putting green investments <\/strong><strong>at Rotterdam at risk:<\/strong> A strict cap on nitrogen emissions in the Netherlands could put c. EUR 10 bn of green tech and renewables investments at Europe\u2019s biggest port Rotterdam \u201cat risk,\u201d outgoing Rotterdam port CEO Allard Castelein told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/cc024ad9-f9ab-46f8-a212-a5a23b531c0e\">The Financial Times<\/a> in an interview last week. He revealed that permits for developers to emit nitrogen oxides and nitrates during the construction process have become difficult to obtain after a court ruled that the country has breached sustainable emissions levels. \u201cAll these manufacturing sites need to be up and running in the next few years. There is a 2030 climate target. We have no time to lose. We need a long-term solution,\u201d Castelein said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why this matters:<\/strong> The issues facing Europe\u2019s biggest port could put a wrench in some regional players\u2019 plans. Those include a <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/291cb602-ae45-4b69-af72-274549f91a31\">planned green hydrogen maritime corridor<\/a> by Spanish oil company Cepsa \u2014 which is majority owned by UAE sovereign fund Mubadala. fossil fuels phasedown at G20:<\/strong> A meeting of G20 energy ministers failed to reach consensus on Saturday at the Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting on a fossil fuels phasedown as several major fossil fuel producing nations led by Saudi Arabia blocked the move, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/fd30b0d2-2990-4531-9ed3-e91db0f4e47e\">the Financial Times<\/a> reported. Talks held in the coastal province of Goa in India were intended to set the tone on energy transition ahead of the G20 meeting next September and the COP28 in December, but the resulting deadlock could be the latest sign of trouble on the use of fossil fuels ahead of a decisive COP28 later this year in the UAE.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What we know:<\/strong> The impasse led to officials only issuing an outcome statement and a chair summary instead of a joint communique which is usually issued when a complete consensus is reached between member countries on all issues. In a summary document released on Saturday, G20 countries said that some member states had stressed on the necessity to scale down the use of fossil fuels without the capture of emissions \u201cin line with different national circumstances,\u201d according to the FT. Yet, others \u201chad different views on the matter,\u201d opting to focus on the development of technology to capture greenhouse gas emissions instead. Two sources told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/g20-draft-tweaked-reflect-dissent-cutting-unabated-fossil-fuels-2023-07-22\/\">Reuters<\/a> that officials failed during the four-day meetings to reach agreement over curbing \u201cunabated\u201d use of fossil fuels and disagreed over the language to be used to describe the path to slash emissions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saudi Arabia and Russia are culprits:<\/strong> Several people familiar with the talks told the salmon-colored paper that Saudi Arabia led the cluster of countries pushing against the fossil fuel phasedown. Along with Russia, Saudi Arabia also turned down a proposal that would see G20 countries tripling their renewable energy capacity by 2030, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zawya.com\/en\/world\/indian-sub-continent\/russia-saudi-oppose-g20-proposal-to-triple-green-energy-capacity-lmgb01np\">Reuters<\/a> reported, citing three sources who attended the G20 meeting. They said that China, the world\u2019s biggest greenhouse gas emitter, and coal exporters South Africa and Indonesia also opposed the plan. They added that India, which currently assumes the G20 presidency, took a neutral stance on the topic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REMEMBER- <\/strong>G20 member nations account for over three-quarters of global emissions and gross domestic product, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd.org\/environment\/waste\/OECD-G20-Towards-a-more-Resource-Efficient-and-Circular-Economy.pdf\">official data<\/a>, with a group effort by the bloc for decarbonization decisive in the world\u2019s fight against climate change.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does this mean for COP28? <\/strong>The failure to reach consensus on a key fossil fuel phasedown sparks worries of a lack of consensus once again on a phaseout of fossil fuels at this year\u2019s summit after top oil producers like Saudi Arabia blocked the effort at COP27 last year. USD 487.8 mn) loan from Indian infrastructure financial institution <a href=\"https:\/\/recindia.nic.in\/\">REC Limited<\/a> for its the green hydrogen and ammonia project it is building with Norway\u2019s Scatec in Oman, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acme.in\/media-release\/251\/acme-group-achieved-financial-closure-of-rs-4000-crore-debt-for-the-first-phase-of-green-hydrogen-and-ammonia-project-in-oman-from-rec-\">statement<\/a> released on Friday. The funds will be used to break ground on the first phase of the project in Oman\u2019s Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Duqm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the project: <\/strong>The first phase of the project is expected to produce 100k tons of green ammonia annually. It would then be expanded at later stages to 1.2 mn tons per annum with about 3.5 GW of electrolyzer capacity powered by 5.5 GW from a solar PV plant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REFRESHER-<\/strong> The project is being executed by the Green Hydrogen and Chemicals Company (GHC), a joint venture between Acme\u2019s UK entity and Norway\u2019s renewables giant Scatec. Last year, Oman\u2019s Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acme.in\/media-release\/161\/signing-land-usufruct-agreement-for-first-green-hydrogen-and-ammonia-project-in-duqm\">signed the land usufruct agreement<\/a> with GHC to develop the first phase of the green hydrogen and ammonia facility.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Acme has other regional projects picking up steam: <\/strong>A group consisting of Egypt\u2019s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), Orascom, and Elsewedy Electric met with India\u2019s Acme Group in New Delhi <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/4bce1e01-8a75-41ab-bfee-c923731bb5a3\">last month<\/a> where they agreed to begin construction soon on a USD 12 bn green hydrogen plant in the SCZone. The plant \u2014 announced <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/4ab5ebab-55a1-4a68-97a3-0f02e5b4e147\">back in August 2022<\/a> \u2014 will span 4.5 mn sqm and have an expected initial annual production capacity of 100k tons during the first phase. The plant\u2019s generational capacity will increase to 2.1 mn tons of green hydrogen when fully operational.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s been a busy month for Oman:<\/strong> Oman\u2019s state-owned hydrogen company Hydrom signed <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/119c4208-382b-44f0-8738-aa7b495f86bc\">earlier this month<\/a> an agreement with the the Hyport Duqm Consortium \u2014 a JV between DEME Concessions and OQ Alternative Energy \u2014 to build a green hydrogen production facility to produce some 1 mn tons of green ammonia. The signing came days after Hydrom <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/cc37caa4-11b7-48c2-8b33-e78b135c2ddc\">awarded last month<\/a> two green hydrogen blocks that are e-fuels \u2014 for both domestic and international markets, the statement notes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jera is also building other partnerships in the region: <\/strong>The company signed a strategic collaboration agreement with the UAE\u2019s Adnoc in a bid to increase cooperation in the green hydrogen production sector, according to another <a USD 350 mn) shariah-compliant green sukuk, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankfab.com\/en-ae\/about-fab\/group\/in-the-media\/fab-inaugural-aed-issuance-achieves-multiple-milestones\">statement<\/a> released on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The details: <\/strong>The green sukuk was priced at 4.93% on Wednesday \u2014 the lowest price offering in the AED market for the bank to date, the statement notes. The issuance marks a first for the bank both in terms of green sukuk and AED-denominated issuances, it adds. FAB acted as joint lead manager and green structuring agent on the issuance, the statement notes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FAB is a major player in the GCC\u2019s green bond scene:<\/strong> Hailed as <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/4e129059-ee38-416f-9e1a-78531ba1cd5e\">a leader in regional green<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/4e129059-ee38-416f-9e1a-78531ba1cd5e\">financing<\/a>, the bank issued a USD 600 mn five-year green bond <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/65f18718-7fa0-491a-9ed6-334de03eb414\">last June<\/a>, upsized from an initial target of USD 500 mn on the back of a 2.8x oversubscribed orderbook. In 2022, the bank <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/c04f04ba-c8db-4d74-95c8-ce792db263f7\">raised USD 1.49 bn<\/a> through three green bond issuances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REMEMBER\u2013 Interest in green and sustainable finance issuance has been on the rise in <\/strong><strong>the region in recent months ahead of COP28<\/strong> <strong>in the UAE.<\/strong> BNP Paribas said earlier this year that it forecasts the global climate-friendly bond sales to climb <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/95960906-4e15-4ecb-8c7c-2cd4bd1841d6\">up to c. USD 600 bn<\/a>, outstripping 2021\u2019s all-time high. The EV is not yet available for sale and has not been priced yet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The details:<\/strong> The EB-ONE packs a 10.4 KW battery, can cover 300 kilometers on a full charge, and has a 150 KM\/h top speed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/lifestyle\/2023\/07\/20\/sulmi-eb-one-first-ever-e-motorbike-created-in-the-uae-hits-the-grit\/\">The National<\/a> notes. The EV can recharge 80% of its battery capacity in one hour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And there\u2019s more EV action happening in Sharjah: <\/strong>Sharjah Taxi \u2014 a subsidiary of transport and logistics firm <a href=\"https:\/\/osool-logistics.com\/en\/\">Osool Transport Solutions<\/a> \u2014 began testing the all electric four seater <a href=\"https:\/\/en.skywellev.com\/et5\">Skywell ET5 EV<\/a> at Sharjah International Airport, <a href=\"https:\/\/wam.ae\/en\/details\/1395303179341\">Wam<\/a> reported last Thursday. The M Glory Holding Group-owned AED 1.5 bn Al Damani Auto EV plant can currently assemble 10k cars annually, but it plans to raise the production capacity to 55k cars per annum over the coming few years. They are looking to set up a left-hand drive electric production facility with a manufacturing capacity of up to 1 mn units catering to the GCC, Europe and the US. The two companies will aim to unlock potential ventures with \u201ca projected value exceeding USD 31 bn across international markets,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the involved firms: <\/strong>Founded in 2011, Pravaig Dynamics is a deep tech mobility company specialized in manufacturing EVs, batteries, and artificial intelligence solutions for autonomous vehicles, according to its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pravaig.com\/\">website<\/a>. The financing round was led by sustainability funding platform <a href=\"https:\/\/pyse.in\/\">Pyse<\/a>, the company said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where the funds are going:<\/strong> The investment would allow One Moto to expand its offering of electric delivery vehicles to customers and further cement its network across the UAE, digital platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sme10x.com\/technology\/one-moto-secures-40m-in-lease-financing-to-accelerate-leasing-of-electric-delivery-vehicles-in-the-uae\">SME10x<\/a> notes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Plug and play<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> One Moto\u2019s motorcycles will not need a charging infrastructure beyond the standard 3-pin socket, CEO Adam Ridgway told SME10x, and the bikes deployed in the UAE come with swappable battery banks. One Moto\u2019s vans use standard type-2 chargers, which can be installed within any company facilities if needed. The company is working with various UAE EV charging companies to supplement the demand, Ridway added, and noted that One Moto\u2019s R&D team is developing groundbreaking charging for all EVs due by 4Q 2023.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking ahead:<\/strong> One Moto is targeting having 50k vehicles in the UAE by 2025 as part of the UAE\u2019s plan to have a \u201cstricter emission target with [a] 40% cut by 2023\u201d as stated by UAE\u2019s Climate Change and Environment Minister Mariam Al Mheiri, according to SME10x.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About One Moto:<\/strong> The London-headquartered sustainable mobility startup offers a wide fleet of delivery vehicles including motorcycles, e-bikes, scooters, delivery and grocery vans, according to its website. The global eVTOL market is expected to grow at a CAGR rate of 14.90% from USD 8.2 bn in 2021 to USD 24.9 bn in 2030, according to a report by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessintelligence-insights.com\/reports\/28\/global-evtol-aircraft-market\">Business Intelligence Insights<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>India\u2019s Tata Group to build USD 5 bn gigafactory in the UK: <\/strong>Indian multinational conglomerate company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tata.com\/home-page\">Tata Group<\/a> will invest GBP 4 bn (c.
