Led by US oil giant ConocoPhillips, the massive Willow oil project has been moving through the administration\u2019s approval process for months, sparking a wave of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/03\/05\/us\/willow-project-tiktok-petition-movement-climate\/index.html\">online activism<\/a> and spurring activists to send in more than 1 mn letters to the White House in opposition of the project. The event will bring together global stakeholders to address sustainability in the aviation industry among other topics.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>WATCH THIS SPACE #1- UK EV car makers are applying pressure for incentives: <\/strong>UK electric vehicle manufacturers are calling for significant government backing to be able to compete with the US and EU markets that have recently passed unprecedented green incentives, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-03-13\/uk-carmakers-warn-us-eu-green-deals-threaten-domestic-industry?srnd=green&leadSource=uverify%20wall\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports. \u201cWe need to step up to compete in this global race,\u201d Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Mike CEO Hawes said yesterday, referring to the impact of the US\u2019 Inflation Reduction Act which saw UK automakers line up to move their electric vehicle plants to the US in search for the most attractive subsidies.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-05\"><\/a> <strong>WATCH THIS SPACE #2- Dubai receives pilot fleet of the new BMW iX5:<\/strong> Five <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/37d87bb4-458b-4e0d-a53c-75206888fc4b\">BMW iX5 Hydrogen<\/a> vehicles have arrived in the Middle East to demonstrate the potential of hydrogen vehicles as a zero-emissions means of transport for select motorists, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/pressreleasenetwork.com\/site\/2023\/03\/13\/bmw-ix5-hydrogen-pilot-fleet-arrives-in-the-middle-east\/\">statement<\/a>. BMW is sourcing the fuel cells for its car from Toyota, which debuted two models of its Mirai sedan boasting <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/c5c06755-d266-49d3-a54a-22265f8745e8\">hydrogen fuel cell technology<\/a> similar to BMW\u2019s iX5 last January. Ahead of COP27 last November, Egypt and Germany <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/50462f30-5c21-41d3-838c-5a83e89f6041\">signed an MoU<\/a> to cooperate on the production of green hydrogen. No information on the timeline for delivery or investment cost were disclosed. If successful, the plan could change the way homes are built globally including hot regions like MENA and the GCC, the statement notes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Introducing the Energy House 2.0:<\/strong> The world-first concept is a specially-designed and built climate chamber that will simulate temperatures ranging from -20\u00b0C to +40\u00b0C. The chamber \u2014 the biggest of its kind globally \u2014 is also set to simulate wind, rain, snow and solar radiation. The global developer and manufacturer built a three-bedroom family house \u2014 known as eHome2 \u2014 within Energy House 2.0 to test the climate resilient building design. The home will also examine a set zero carbon performance in varying temperatures and weather conditions to recreate extreme climate conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The details:<\/strong> eHome2 will be home to an advanced timber frame solution, pre-insulated walls, and lightweight render-based bricks. The home can also be fully built in 3 to 3.5 months \u2014 half of the time needed to construct a basic standard home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why is this important?<\/strong> A 2022 report by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/mena\/en\/the-implications-of-climate-change\/\">Greenpeace<\/a> found that MENA is warming nearly twice as fast as the global average \u2014 with temperatures increasing at a rate of 0.4\u00b0C per decade since the 1980s. Buildings in the MENA region consume up to 80% of the electricity generated due to reliance on power air conditioning during usually hot seasons, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityscape-intelligence.com\/architecture\/how-menas-architecture-industry-fighting-climate-change\">Cityscape Intelligence<\/a>.
