Charles had been scheduled to attend in his capacity as Prince of Wales and founder of the Terra Carta initiative. The cancellation comes on the \u201cadvice\u201d of UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, but <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/alextomo\/status\/1576332543007240193\">speculation in the UK press corps<\/a> is that Truss scuppered the trip and that Buckingham Palace leaked the news in retaliation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The story is front-page news<\/strong> in the UK and around the world: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-63105522\">BBC<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2022\/oct\/01\/king-charles-abandons-plans-to-attend-cop27-following-liz-trusss-advice\">Guardian<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/uk\/uks-king-charles-stepping-back-campaigning-will-not-go-egypt-climate-summit-2022-10-02\/\">Reuters<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/queen-elizabeth-ii-king-charles-iii-africa-middle-east-d9523bdecc2604eed07d5c85facb88f3\">AP<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>GO DEEPER- <\/strong>Charles\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sustainable-markets.org\/news\/to-mark-75-days-until-cop27-his-royal-highness-the-prince-of-wales-sustainable-markets-initiative-announces-the-terra-carta-action-forum\">Terra Carta Action Forum<\/a>, which is scheduled to take place during COP27, will focus on how to deliver on \u201cthe promises made in Glasgow\u201d at COP26, to unlock USD tns of private sector investment for climate action, the then-Prince of Wales said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO- Oil prices could be heading back up this week as OPEC+ mulls on Wednesday <\/strong><strong>whether to slash production by 1 mn barrels or more<\/strong> \u2014 the cartel\u2019s largest output cut since the start of the covid-19 pandemic. Brent Crude climbed 2.5% overnight on the news to USD 81.47 \/ barrel, but was well above USD 100 \/ barrel from March through July of this year. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/bee3f1c7-4b7b-432b-ad35-6f506d173516\">Financial Times<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/opec-to-weigh-production-cut-to-bolster-oil-prices-11664734482\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> have more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AND speaking of fossil fuels: French filling stations are <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/four-french-refineries-disrupted-by-fourth-day-strikes-2022-09-30\/\">running dry<\/a><\/strong> on the back of strikes at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.argusmedia.com\/en\/news\/2376170-french-refinery-strikes-to-continue-through-the-weekend\">four of six of France\u2019s refineries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-05\"><\/a> <strong>WATCH THIS SPACE- The global green sukuk <\/strong><strong>market <\/strong><strong>could grow <\/strong><strong>anywhere between USD <\/strong><strong>30-50 bn by 2025<\/strong>, according to a majority of <a href=\"https:\/\/islamicmarkets.com\/articles\/green-sukuk-market-set-for-take-off-as-demand-grows-islamicmarkets\">Islamic finance<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/islamicmarkets.com\/articles\/green-sukuk-market-set-for-take-off-as-demand-grows-islamicmarkets\">professionals<\/a> surveyed by <a href=\"https:\/\/islamicmarkets.com\">Islamic Markets<\/a>. The sale would double RWE\u2019s renewables portfolio in the US to more than 7 GW of operating assets and expand its pipeline in the US to more than 24 GW in onshore wind, solar and batteries projects. It would also make RWE as the second-largest solar operator in the US.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RWE thinks the transaction can be completed in 1H 2023 <\/strong>if it gets its regulatory ducks in a row. Egypt was followed by Oman (USD 48.9 bn) and Morocco (USD 16.85 bn). Saudi Arabia came in fourth with USD 10.5 bn, while the UAE ranked fifth across the region with USD 10.3 bn. Qatar and Kuwait both ranked last with USD 15 mn each.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s not a surprise that Egypt is in the lead: <\/strong>This summer alone, Egypt signed USD 32 bn worth of <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/291deece-f594-411e-9c53-6bb6156efd7d\">preliminary agreements<\/a> for green ammonia and hydrogen projects with seven international companies set to generate a combined annual capacity of around 5.5 mn tons of green fuel in the Ain Sokhna industrial zone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But MENA\u2019s green hydrogen projects need some foundational work. <\/strong>These include the development of clear regulations, agreements on certifications and streamlining electrolyzer production to make investments more profitable, Al Anba writes, referring to discussions held among industry professionals at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wetex.ae\/\">Wetex and Dubai Solar Show<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The bigger question: How many of these MENA plants will get built <\/strong>in the wake of the US Inflation Reduction Act, which includes a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitydive.com\/news\/the-ira-will-accelerate-electrolyzed-hydrogens-future-heres-what-that-me\/632925\">10-year production tax credit<\/a> of as much as USD 3 \/ kg of H2 produced with no emissions.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-05\"><\/a> <strong>COULD WORK ON A MAERSK HYDROGEN PLANT IN EGYPT BEGIN IN DECEMBER?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Maersk could break ground on its green hydrogen project in Egypt as early as <\/strong><strong>December<\/strong>, Al Mal <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3fBGt9J\">reported<\/a> yesterday, citing what it said are \u201csources close to the matter.\u201d The initial phase of the project is expected to be finalized within a year after land for the project gets allocated, the sources said, with hydrogen shipments expected to be exported the following year.
